How many people would be interested in a State Chapter? If you would be
interested in an Illinois State Chapter of the NAFC, Post here. I will
see what I can do to get it going. Scott Miller

Until I see if there's an actual interest in it, I'll put it off. I may make a seperate site for fishing/camping in IL not related to NAFC in any way whatsoever. Scott Miller

Actually, I may make a State Chapter site and host it on one of my domains I currently own, then see if anyone decides to climb on board, and go from there. |

What type of agenda/format were you thinking for the chapter?
Most of what has discouraged me from joining local fishing clubs, was there weren't very many that were all that "local" to me. lol
I was never ambitous enough to drive an hour plus at the end of the day, to attend a meeting at 8pm or later, then drive back home. Guess I'm startin to get old.
Plus the membership dues on some clubs was kind of steep for me, just being a recreational fisher- I just want to get together once in awhile with some others and fish, swap ideas etc.

Well, what I was thinking was more along the lines of what you're suggesting. Getting together with some of the other members, and being able to fish and swap Ideas. Maybe share some insight onto lakes or ponds that may be in your local area that might not be known.
The only "dues" would be used to cover the hosting of the clubs website, and would also go towards any get-together that may be planned. And it would be reasonable, possibly $5 a year or something like that. I personally live in Peoria, So I'm lucky to be about a 3 hour drive one way or the other.

Scott: I think you are on the right track, keep the cost down and most importantly if anyone plans a get together shoot for the middle of the state. The Kentucky guys are planning a get together at Kentucky lakes which is in western Kentucky. It is asking a lot to expect someone from the east end of the state to make the trip especially if their time is tight. I can see $5-10 a year, but don't ask me to make a meet on Rend lake every year. Tom |

Well, should I start the website part of a local chapter? I would love to see an interest in this, and would love it to take off. There would be quite a bit more freedom with how the site is designed, and things like that, A) because I am a website designer, and B) because it is a state chapter, not everyone who is in the NAFC. If a few people are behind this, I will start working on the site. I've got the time, and the dedication to get this started. I would probably suggest $5 per year as membership, and then there could also be a donations part where anyone can donate if they wish. Also, I would love to be able to offer actual Merchandise for members to purchase directly through the site, IE Hats, Jackets, Shirts, and whatever else someone may suggest. |

Well, I'm In Central IL, and I'm taking a trip to Lake Shelbyville next week. And Possibly going to Carlyle Lake Later in the year. And I've already got time off in July to take another trip to Lake Shelbyville. It doesn't really matter what part of the state you're in. If you'd be interested in a state chapter is the Question. And I'm sure if we start an Annual get-together, we'd have it somewhere in Central IL. And nothing is gonna stop you from planning a get-together down in your neck of the woods. You can invite everyone, but like Pegsguy says, don't expect everyone to travel the length of the state every year for a get together. |

I'm officially starting an Illinois Chapter. Just purchased the domain name (nafcillinoischapter.org) and will be starting to work on putting that together. Membership fees will be $5 per year. If you are interested in joining, you can either reply to this post, or send an email to me directly. |

Scott, looks like your off to a good start! Here is what Ohio has done:
http://www.nafcohiochapter.com/index.php
This is a free website. The officers are responsible for monitoring it and one of the members built the site and keeps it updated, make necessary changes, etc. All members are screened. They hold monthly meetings in a different location every month. Members have the option to request a meeting in their area! They have an annual meet and at least one mini meet during the year. They are incorporated and have a tax free status (non-proffit status). They conduct fundraisers during the annual meet to help defray the cost of meals & campsite(s) during activities. They also have their own product line and members may order at scheduled times.
I hope this will be of help to you as strive to adopt a state chapter. So far there is Texas and Ohio, if my memory serves me right! The folks at Ohio will help you in your efforts if you ask...Probably the same for the Texas chapter. I for one will be watching closely! |

I'm getting there on this. See, I don't want JUST a forum for the site. I want to be able to have the forums, but I want there to also be other info available. Fishing prospects, info on joining, and other things as well. Having forums is great, and I've already got the forums up, and will be adding more and more sections as time allows. However the main part of the site is still being worked on. If any of you have input, please let me know. |

Will this be an NAFC chapter? You speak of a state chapter...
A $5 annual fee for maintaining the site is reasonable to me (I personally wouldn't mind paying that). I am not sure I understand the rest of what you were explaining... |

Yes, this will be an NAFC state chapter. Similiar to the NAFC Ohio Chapter. However, I'm going to have the site have more info available than just forums. While forums are great, I'd like to have a place where members can upload photos directly, possibly have their own blogs if they so choose, there are a few ideas I am kicking around right now. The blogs, would be hosted and offered as part of the membership, if you choose, you can also get your own email @nafcillinoischapter.org Would like to also offer license purchasing, but I will have to go through the IDNR and see what that would entail. Plus sections for state parks and such. Offer maps possibly, but we shall see what all gets put in. |

If you look at the NAFC Ohio chapter, the membership is not open to JUST NAFC members. It's open to anyone who lives in OH. This is going to be the same for the IL Chapter |

Seems that this idea died along with all the other attempts. It seems to me that the club members in Il. just aren't the joining type! Notice how many Chicago area members post on the forums. Tom |

Tom, at one point there were a lot of folks from Ill. participating in this forum...Like New Jersey, before my time, they were quite active. Wisconsin has stayed active through the years, along with Pa. I think the site needs to get more stable, easier to access (not take so long for folks on dial-up) and it will pick up again... At least I pray it is so... |

It's been that way on a few other sites I am on too, not just fishing either.
Always a lot of interest in the beginning, then just a few die hards stick around for the most part later on.
Anywhooo, hope everyone's summer is going well. I've been prepping my truck for plow season, and writing contracts the last few days. |

I would love to say that I was doing well with this, but I never heard anything from anyone, so I stopped in my tracks. I don't have any problem restarting this, as I do still own the domain.
Also, there is a NAFC Illinois Chapter on FB as well! |
