I'm from Westwood, it's a Kansas City Suburb.  I fish more in MO than in KS, Lake Lotawana and a private pond near my sister's house are the places I catch the most fish.  If I've got the time, I'll head to LaCygne or maybe Louisberg Middlecreek SFL.  Closer to home, I've caught fish from Olathe Lake, Cedar Lake, Shawnee Mission Park, and various other ponds and creeks.  I'm looking forward to warmer weather.  I might even try to catch some elusive KS walleyes this upcoming weekend.  We'll see.

I live in Wichita. We have a pretty good urban fishery here, they stock local parks and borrow pits with catfish and trout in season.  Sometimes I  go to Cheney or Eldorado, but with gas so high it's not as often as I would like.

I'm retired from Boeing, and we have a pretty good recreation area with a lake thats especially good for kids or grandkids.

I am down here in the southeast corner, a little town called Sedan. I am 15 miles north of the OK state line. We have city lakes just outside of town, both are pretty good at times. They are not big but catfish over 20lbs can be caught from either one of them every single night. I also fish Cowley Co. lake and Card Creek which feeds into Elk City Res. Card Creek is loaded with monster catfish and probably holds the next world record flathead. The current world record came from the lake but catfish in the creek seem to be bigger and easier to find on average.

I would not say I have a home lake, I seem to fish every lake within 60 miles of here as often as I can. There are plenty of lakes around here to fish. Our local lakes have been ranked as the top lakes in the state as far as crappie density so when my Wife decides she wants to cook fish, which is often, it takes just a few hours for my son and I to have a mess of fish.

I am a disable vet and can't work so I fish just about every day. My Wife says I become a grouch if I stay in the house so she makes me go fishing. She claims I am easier to get along with if I fish every day. My Wife makes me go fishing as often as possible and this causes problems for some of my friends that fish because their wives won't let them go fishing as often as they want to. It must suck to be them! I have one friend that calls from his garage. His Wife sends him out to do some work around the house, he calls me, then has me pick him up on the corner down the street from his house. It is rather funny seeing a grown man standing on the corner with his fishing rods, tackle box, and a cooler all in an attempt to hide from his wife. He tosses his stuff into my boat as quickly as he can and we head off down the road. I really don't blame him though, I would hide from his wife also! LOL

Krush, I would be happy to take you out to any of the places I fish around here. I am only an hour and a half from Wichita. My Wife's nephew is going to school in Wichita and he drives down with his freinds almost every weekend to go fishing. As for trading a trip, that would be great but I don't get to Wichita much. The only time I go to Wichita is when I have an appointment at the VA hospital. An hour and a half drive doesn't seem like much to most people but after making that trip, I can not walk for three days afterwards. I have nerve damage in my back and any trip over an hour usually kills me. Depending on what you want to fish for, I have many places to fish within 40 minutes of my house. I can make a 40 minute drive with no ill effects.

Krush, I don't know if the 1967 behind your name is there for a reason but that is the year I was born. As for crappie, I will be more than happy to have you along when they start biting. This has been an odd year, staying cool longer than normal. Last year the water temp was up in the high 60s and low 70s, the crappie were biting like crazy until the rains came. This year, water temp is low and water is muddy on my favorite crappie spots. Crappie are being a little tight lipped at the moment but they will start moving soon I hope.

Lantern, you are 5 yrs younger than my dad, if you get around like he does, you aren't that old. In 67, my Dad was in the Army, he had been drafted the year before. He got his draft notice 2 days before he graduated from college. Not much of a graduation gift. Dad had not planned on going into the Army but the government had other plans. My Dad gets around much better than I do and I am only 40. Somebody from my family from every generation had been in the military, kind of my families way of paying for our debt for freedom as Americans, anyway, it was my turn so I joined. I didn't half ass things, I became all I could be and joined the Rangers. Fought in Panama, that is where I was injured but didn't suffer any ill effects at the time. Then served through Desert Storm. I got out after that, wasn't much fun when the targets started shooting back. 3 years ago, my injury caught up with me. My legs seemed to stop working the way they are supposed to but that is fine, I had friends that did not return home so I was lucky. I guess I am retired now. I fished over 250 days last year. I am available to fish any day anyone wants to join me. I am out in my boat every time I get the chance which is almost every day of the year.

Hey GreenLantern....graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963.   Remember a guy from Ellsworth named Roger Bender....always guarded him in basketball. Went to college at Kansas Wesleyan....am currently serving as alumni President.    Was in US Army(draftee) from 1968-69.   Served with the Americal Division in Viet Nam.....retired last May and enjoying every day...play golf almost daily, waiting for water temp at Lake Wilson to warm to 50.   Built a home in 2005 and enjoy landscaping, gardening and working in yard.

Suggest you guys in Wichita area, maybe get together for a cup of coffee sometime soon and pick some dates and places..How many of us have boats?   Post a note please about your boat and how many can fish not counting yourself...........I have a Ranger 518 and could easily take two...gets really crowded with three..How about a walleye fishing trip to Marion sometime in May or early June...In fact, think there are two lakes at Marion, one city and one Corp of Engineer....would like to stay away from Eldorado with boat due to Zebra mussell. ...If you all want to come to Russell, I can make arrangements for a meal...maybe in my backyard even....should have a great year for walleye at Wilson, although will catch lots of fish just under the fifteen inch limit.   Have a couple of nice motels here and plenty of good eateries.  Pontoon rentals available at Wilson also.....May is just around the corner.....May 10th is college graduations and Mother's day weekend.....24th is Memorial Day....Maybe 17th or 31st.....just thinking out loud....

I've tried organizing a minimeet and we had a handful of people show up.  Well 3 and a buddy.  If we're going to do something in and around Wichita, it should be by someone who is familiar with the lakes.  I've never fished Marion, but that's no problem.  I think May 30th and 31st gives everyone a lot of time to plan so I would vote for those day(s).  What we need is someone to step up and organize.  It's not easy and it is time consuming, due to these factors, I don't want to do it.  If someone does, then we need a post in the KS section and in the member meets section.  Right now those dates are clear for me, as time goes on, they will fill in.  Who wants to organize this?

Well third post today, but looks like by far I'm the youngest in age.  I'm from Wichita, but I don't fish many of the lakes in town.  I have fished one of the KDOT lakes and caught some decent crappie and bass from it.  When I go fish I rather enjoy escaping the city limits.  I fish Butler SFL and Kingman SFL.  I also fish a farm pond that I have fished since I was little so over twenty years now, which has good numbers of largemouth.  I have fished Mcpherson SFL lake a few times with success on largemouth.  Toronto I fished a few times as well, but only one good trip with largemouth and white bass.  I fished Cowley once from shore, but the lake seems like it would have better offerings with a boat as the other side had lots of trees and branches dipping in the lake.  I just fished Coffey County lake with good catches of smallmouth bass.  I tend to stay away from big reservoirs like Cheney and El Dorado and the likes... reasons... More fuel consumption if taking the boat... more driving to move to the next spot if on foot... Last year I went mainly to small lakes and I didn't even use up one tank of gas on the boat.  But when my dad was a scoutmaster and we took an explorer group to Wellington lake I used up a tank in a day of sport boating.  My home lake I would say Butler.  I have fished there the most, but most of the lake I don't even fish so I won't say I know it well with fishing deep, but I usually can pull some good three pounders or more large mouth or a few dozen small, medium largemouth.  Last year was difficult because the slop and high vegetation matts didn't grow with all the rain.  I tend to fish fast, whether it's lipless baits, minnow baits, or bouncing worms.  I'm working on slowing down and fishing jerk baits, but still haven't caught anything with that method.  I believe I have written enough for the day.

I'm from Ottawa K.S. just south of Lawrence K.S. I've fished Clinton Res., Lone Star Lake, Pomona Lake, and Hillsdale Lake. I've also fished Tuttle Creek Res. near Manhattan K.S. where I grew up. Kansas has great fishing opportunities all over. It's a great fishing state.

Hi all.  I live in Hesston Ks, just moved up here a year ago and hope to learn more about fishing in Kansas.  I take as many trips a year as I can to Colorado since I am a trout fishing fool.  I also like to fish for crappies, catfish and bass and want to learn more about walleye fishing.  I just enjoy going fishing but have no idea's on where to go as of yet.  I have visited a few lakes just to see them but have only tried Konapolis seep stream for trout so far.  I don't own a boat at the moment but looking so if anyone knows where I can find a Lund or Crestliner with a 50 to 90 hp motor that is used but not used up please let me know.  My wife also loves to fish but scared when in boats and those 2 are deep and seem to sit way out of the water so I think she would enjoy that.  I have fished from Alaska to Pennsylvania to Texas and just love to fish.  My sons live in Oklahoma, grown now and I go fish with them alot on Keystone lake for all type of fish.  If anyone is looking for a fishing buddy give me a shout!

Kanopolis, the outlet here is the best place on this lake for you to fish if you do not have access to a boat, thats where my father used to take me when hed say we were going to cheney, but I would talk him out of cheney and we would make the drive from Hutch to Kanopolis instead, I have caught so many catfish out of there its rediculous, Few big stripers 15lb plus and some walleye in the 2-4lb range. If youd msg me on here and tell me what big lakes you are close too im sure I could put on some walleye from the bank just need a map reminder of Kansas's lay out, lol.

Whenever you go to a new body of water never go straight into it look at the other people fishing from the bank and the ones that are meticulously doing the same thing over and over again, are typically Walleye fisherman working the "holes" they know are there, the people just casting and reeling in are the ones typically fishing for Whitebass, Wipers, and Stripers. The ones casted out sitting down watching their rods depending on what time of year, Usually are catfisherman other times of the year they could be any Species.

Talk to the locals someone is always looking for a fishing partner to share knowledge with.
