Fred, I have been a life member for at least 19, or 20 years. During that time, I have seen many changes. The BB has had it's ups, and downs. Things were very bad, for a few years. It was near impossible to post anything. Or to even get on, and read the threads. Because of that, many members, have quit, or gone to other sights. Some members, come and go. Some stick around.
Things work a lot better now. We were lucky, to have a few people at headquarters, to take the time to fix things. They did a great job. And things will improve. But it will take some time.
You are not the first one, to try to get a Kentucky chapter going. The others became discouraged, because this sight was in such bad shape.
I do not think you should give up. But it will take some time, to get things going. Michigan, has one of the best chapters going. But they had a though time getting started. Once they got going, it took off big time. Now, they have people from all over the country. The same is true for other states as well.
I would suggest, that you read the threads, about their meets, and get togethers. You may be able to get some ideas there. And the other states, would do all they can to help you. I do not know if Big Dog is still around. He is a mover, and knows how to get things done.
I would also suggest, that you try setting up a meet, at least a year in advance. That will give people, time to make plans. Not everyone, can get off work, on short notice. You may have to start, with just a few members. Then, if it works. More will join in, the next year.
I wish I could help you get started. But due to poor health. I can't travel very far, or often. Otherwise, I would be there.
I hope you do not give up. And that you are successful. Keep the faith, and things will work out. If it does not work out. You could join a chapter, from another state. Ohio, is not to far, from where you are located. They welcome members from all over. Some members belong to more than one chapter. We may not have enough interested members right now. But sooner, or later, there will be. It just will take some time.
I wish you all the best possible luck, and success, in your endeavor. If you do succeseed. I will look forward to reading the reoprts, on the meets. I read about all of the meets, from all of the states. The ones from Michigan, are special to me. As that is where I was born. And where I fished, for well over 50 years. I wish, I could go back there. But now, the 500 miles is just to far. And 500 miles, is just to the southern border. To go to the UP, would be over 1000 miles, each way. the last time I was able to make the trip. Was way back in 1998.
If you are ever around the Kentucky, Lake Barkely area, in the fall. And are interested in trying for some small striped bass. Let me know. I can make the 25 mile trip, to the dam. I just can't do it many times, in a row. You would not need any equipment. I have enough rods, for 2, or 3 people.
