I'm new to the area and my wife and I are actively looking for fishing spots and people to fish with.

Right now we're walking a few minutes to where the Mill River goes under Rt 10 in Northampton, the Oxbow, and I've done a "fun-pass" excursion to Gate 15 at Quabbin (that was an adventure).

Any suggestions or people that want to meet up?

The Fort River in Amherst is pretty good.

The Sawmill in Montague is even better.

I've never fished it, but the Millers River in Orange has a good reputation too.

But the "gold standard" for trout fishing around your neck of the woods (albeit a bit further away) are probably the Westfield, the Deerfield and the Swift Rivers.

depending on what your looking for whether you fish rivers and streams only or lakes as well there are several places in athol and orange that i fish regularly one spot daily, but it's my kivvie spot, that are great for catching cats trout bass pickerel crappie and if you like having fun pulling in several kivvies in just a short time i got a spot for that. it all depends on what your looking to catch and where your willing to go to catch it. my email is michaeldhutchison01331@yahoo.com if you'd like to contact me and go out to one of my favorite spots for some fishing with myself and my girlfriend. i also have access to several points along the millers river in athol from my house and know of at least 5 hot spots for fishing for all sorts of fish.
