Anybody got any tips on fishing Boston Harbor for strippers, blues, mac's cod, flounder. When and where do the mac's run beast times of the year for them best bait's. I need all the help I can get had a horriable season last year caugh no keepers just schoolie strippers and every time I went for cod got nothing but doggies. I wanted to sell my boat I was so bummed but then came winter and it put it storage. Now I am ready to go again don't want the same results this year.

I got a 20 ft runabout that I come out of the Charles river thu the Boston locks I will go out as far a the" B " bouy.

HELP ME BEFORE I SINK HER

If you have a boat, NOW is the time to get everything but the Bluefish.  I was out Yesterday and got a Cod in a 100 foot hole about 3 miles from deer island.   If your looking for Flounder? You can get them off almost any place with a flat sand bottom. Try just off the Revere or Lynn beach in about 10 to 20 feet of water.  Just Make sure your rigged correctly and be ready to deal with Skates if your useing, say SeaWorms on a sinker. The stripers are just starting to pick up. As the rivers are flushing out and the bait fish are running into the rivers to spawn. I saw a few good sized schools of stripers on my Finder yesterday. But the Water temp is still a little low for the Stripers to get very active. When we in the greater Boston area get 2 or 3 straight 70 degree days, The water temp will rise a little. Thats when you want to really be working the river mouths hard. Find a spot with flowing water and a rocky bottom and your sure to get more then you want to deal with. Mid May will be prime. As for Cod, The have started to move out of the Harbor. You'll need to get out to at least a 100 foot holes to see any real Cod action. The Blue fish will be here around the end of May in good numbers. But once they show up the Mac will leave. Its the same every year. If you catching macs, there are no blue fish around for 100 miles. Of course there are a few days where there in the mix. But after that few days, like I said those Mac are gone out to deeper water to stay clear of the Blues. Infact thats the best way of knowning the Blues are in. I could go on and on about the habbits I have obsurved over the years.

In short MACS are in NOW. Stripers are in NOW, Flounder are always around. Cod are going deeper NOW. Blues a month or a little more away.

As for best rigs to catch Mac's. I found that almost any bait rig like the ones on this Cabelas web address work great with a spoon at the end.http://www.cabelas.com/information/...03479.html

Bluefish = will attack almost anything.

Cod  = Heavy jigs, Sea worm, clam work best.

Stripers = The time is right now. Live or Chunked fish your pick, SeaWorms, Eel, Clam's Stripers will eat just about everything you put in front of them if there hungry and your prestation looks natural. I use a lot of Spoon's, "Jointed" Crank bait's and when when the time is right popper's. They all work well depending on light and conditions. But the RUBBER SHAD are my #1 pick if you only had to pick one type of lure for the day. I would say rubber shads. Night, day, still or moving water they work.

I have a 17 foot Lund Fisherman Hunter green "maybe you'll see me on the water at some point"! I leave from the Mystic River just around the bend from where you leave the Charles locks. Theres few good spots on the Charles river for stripers before the locks, at the hot water outlet by the power plant. You could more then likly catch a keeper sized fish a day at that spot if you work it hard enough.  There are also some MONSTER Catfish there if your just looking to have fun with some light tackle and some Clam or Chicken Liver on a not so perfact day. Oh you'll get some BIG eels there aswell. lol witch happen to make a great striper bait if you use them live buy the river mouths and off the Deer island rip.

Excelent tips.. I preferr to not to use live bait rather throw lures I like tosse spoons big castmasters jigs and salt water spinner baits plus top waters when the schoolies are around. I am familar with some of the spots on the Charles just inside the locks at the museum of scince and right outside them on the left under the bridge. The herring should start running in a week or two they fill the Charles monster strippers come all the way down to watertown square.

I got a 19 ft Bayliner runabout white ove blue I am a couple of weeks late geeting her out of storage problem with impeller.

I have gone out to the " B " bouy and drifterd the deep humps and have gotten some nice cod in years past. I am hopeing that I just had a bad year last year never got the tides right or the weather. Thanks again for the tips hope to see you out there hauling the 50 incher in I am always montering 16 and 10 give me a yell if you are out there.

Good deal. Im heading on to B Bouy On Wed, or i should say I am planing on it. High tides at 940 ish. So I plan on being there on the out going so i can drift out instead of in. If ya happen to see a Hunter green Lund fisherman blow you horm 3 times, Thats what every one I know does when they see me and i turn the radio on.  Cant miss me, im one of only a few with my bot in the area and my solidwhite Minkota riptide trolling motor sticks out. There is one other guy with a Hunter Green Lund but is a  Alaska Center Console. The Harriing have started making there way donw the Mystic so im sure there doing the same at Charles. I saw a small pod/school of harring a few hours ago down at the Locks/Dam on the Mystics and i got one schoolie on a white fluffy 1 oz jig with a curly tail. I say a few more weeks and the BIG stripers will be rolling into town . Good luck out there thi season. Also You dont hapen to know anyone selling a 9 + hp Kicker motor by anychance? :)
