Anyone see any winterkill this year?  If so, how much?

I just checked the DNRE site - didn't see anything yet.

Has anyone actually spotted any winterkilled fish, yet?

I've never seen winter kill in my area.

There isn't typically a lot of winterkill in Washington, as the weather doesn't usually get cold enough for the water to freeze over for very long (if at all), allowing the oxygen levels to stay at fish-safe levels.

Some have been reported in CT on another site I'm on:
...been fishing some small ponds and notice a lot of dead fish floating. Most are sunny's and I've seen a couple of bass not many...
...seen some sunnys and some crappie but no bass...
...short section of shore because it stunk so bad. Saw hundreds, if not thousands of sunnys, several good size LMB and several large Carp, which is amazing...

You must be thinking about the western part of the state. I live in the eastern part of the state and the winters are very cold here and the lakes do freeze over every year.

You must be thinking about the western part of the state. I live in the eastern part of the state and the winters are very cold here and the lakes do freeze over every year.

Thanks for the info.  I've only visited the western part of the state.

saw a bunch of dead 'uns at the Selfridge launch site, mostly shad, one big carp

Found this nice pike dead on the shore.  Wish I could have caught it!

They had a news report on a local tv station here about a big fish die off. They showed the video and they were all gizzard shad. They die off every winter here in the saginaw river and bay. I dragged one up through the hole off the bottom while ice fishing and omg what a smell I almost hurled lol couldn't stuff it back down the hole fast enough. Then had to open all the doors and windows in my shanty to air it out.

That sucks.  The pike I found didn't stink a bit.  In fact it actually smelled pretty darn good.  (kidding)
