Just an update.  Crappie are now in 3-8 ft of water looking / cruising around for spawning areas.

Being caught on a variety of colored tube jigs 3 ft under a bobber, and some are biting minnows.

Morning seems better than any other time.  Some catch limits, some catch a nice mess, or just a few fish.  Eggs in one 14 in. female my father caught, showed that the female was not ready to spawn for a while yet.

Below the dam, many folks are fishing out of a boat or from docks in the dead water side.  Some are doing okay and some White Bass are biting now and then as well.

Thanks for the report. I hear they're biting pretty decent at Mark Twain Lake also!

This week Crappie [males mostly] had moved to the bank and the females were in 20 ft. of water. Some of the White Crappie males were turning black. Was fishing small coves next to big trees or brush piles, and fishing from the bank. Caught about 40 Crappie ranging from 9 to 14 inches in length. Released over half of them that were 9-10 in. long.

Biting anything Chartreuse with a 1/16th or 1/8th oz lead head and I started using a bobber above my baits [about 2 ft.] in many places throwing parallel to the bank in 2-5 ft of water. Caught many fish that way.
Also caught and landed some LMB, Carp, Bluegill, green sunfish, and a Channel cat.

Looks like the fun's over this weekend as cold temps and rain have hit. But maybe things will improve next week sometime.

This weeks update...... Crappie seem to be males mostly and a few females close to the bank. Many big females are still in the back of coves in the middle about 1/12 ft. off the bottom. Biting anything with Chartreuse mixed in or whole in color mostly.

Update for May 9-14 Crappie scattered all over the lake. In shallow in some places, 10-20 feet deep in others. Shallow fish being caught, [ including the females seem small] 6-7 to 1 over keepers. Many being caught in 2-8 feet of water.

Other Res. locations, the large females are in 10-20 feet of water and haven't laid their eggs at all.

Appears to be a case of hoping you find the large females [using a boat in deep water, ] or fish from the bank and catch many fish, getting to keep a nice fish now and then.

Latest update. My dad caught many Crappie in Cedar trees and Hardwood trees at 10 ft. deep. larger fish bit first them the smaller fish started biting. So dad moved around from one patch of trees to another and caught big fish at each place he tried.

Many other folks are also catching many nice Crappie all of a sudden at Truman Res. 10 ft deep and they range from 9 to 16 in long.

He was using yellow and charteuese tube jigs with an 1/8th ounce head.
