Good Moring New Jersey. Hey FNF. Isn't black powder in now? If so Did or are you getting out? How did you do? I went fishing Sunday and all I caught was a cold. It was pouring rain, but I didn't care. I think even the fish thought I was crazy. I just love to be on the water. My wife said, "go ahead out". She must really love me !! When I was leaving I heard her on the phone with our insurance agent upping my life insurance policy. Dan "Stealthfisher" Doc

Thanks for the reply FNF. Your right, about the time of year. This is the time for cleaning out the tackle box, cleaning and rearranging all my rods and other equipment. It's amazing what you find that you forgot you even bought. I'm even going to start tying flies in my spare time while the waters are freezing over. Of course I'm going to get out when ever I can. Your right about the snow coming. Hopefully on Tuesday it will be better. I'm off on Wednesdays and Thursdays. That's when it usually rains!! What part of the Garden State are you from? I'm from Gloucester County. I see you posted something about trolling motors. I'm in the market for a motor for a 10' boat and can use some advise. I'm going to post a topic in Life members Seeking advise on this subject. I have noticed they have different shaft sizes. How do you know what size shaft would be best? Do you recommend a foot pedal or can I get by with the ones with a handle? I fish alot of waters with little or no current, but windy though. Dan "Stealthfisher" Doc

I went out Wed. I didn't take the kayak because the nights have been pretty cold and I figured there would be alot of ice on top. The wife said she was going to come until she saw the frost on the car (ChIcKen! ) Went to Greenwich lake in Gibbstown. ( I was right, alot of ice ) Put on the Grange boots and tread all around the lake throwing rooster tails and other spinners trying for a trout bite. I saw one follow my spinner, but he just turned away at the last minute. There is canals or ditches around the lake, so I went over to try my luck there and I found a little crappie spot. I pulled in about four small crappie on a small yellow curly tail jig. On the way out I threw that same jig off the little bridge and set a hook on two small bass. It was cool because on the bridge I could see the bass come up to take the jig. Even in this cold water, the bass seem rather aggressive as it took the jig. I didn't get a trout, but I did catch two species. All in all a good way to celebrate my birthday. ( Boy, I'm getting old, but I'm having fun doing it! ) I have to start carrying my camera, but these fish would look like a lure on film. Dan "Stealthfisher" Doc

A late Happy Birthday to ya. Gald to hear the day wasn't a total loss. I don't go anywhere without my camera. I have pics of poeple who went with me, and caught fish SMALLER than some of the lures I use. I couldn't fish out of a kayak, I have enough problems fishing out of my boat. too many rods and equipment. I normally have 6-7 rods on the boat. spin, casting, and fly rods. Yeah, my wife doesn't get the going out in the cold to stand on a frozen lake or sit in a tree all day, and then not get any thing to boot. I've tried to explain it's just being out there, and watching nature, maybe see something nobody normally wouldn't....still doesn't get it...OH well, her lose, and it gets me out of the house. |

Thanks Steve, I appreciate the greeting. You said it. It's not just the catching I go for, it's the getting right up there with Nature. Take it from a guy born and raised on concrete in the city.( Philly Boy) The only nature I saw growing up was pigeons and sparrows. Since I moved to NJ, I got a nice piece of ground were the nature seems endless. I now live close to more than a dozen decent fishing areas and like you I get out well over 100+ times a year. My wife, God bless her, she puts up with my fishing trips and now in the spring, summer and fall we both go out on kayaks to fish. She's hooked now. I've created a Monster! Hell, I even got her into Nascar!!! Thanks again. Off to work. Dan "Stealthfisher" Doc

I can't get my wife to just go sit in the boat, none the less fish. she was born in Philly too. She puts up with a hell of a lot with my hunting and fishing. She'll even help butcher the deer, not bad for a city girl. I was born and raised here in NJ with the Delaware right in my back yard. my parents still live there. If the ice holds and gets a little thicker, we're going ice fishing next weekend. I can't wait. I love my drag racing, and Nascar too, but there's nothing like the smell and noise of nitro, gotta have my drag racing. |

I was out on Tuesday, and it's officially winter for me now. The lake I go to alot (Greenwich ) was totally covered with ice. I walked around the entire lake and I was only able to fish one little spot at the entrance in the ditches as their called, were there was a break in the ice. I was able to pull two small crappie out of the water on a yellow swirly tail jig, so it felt like it wasn't totally a wash. I may give the water one more chance on Thursday when I try Mantua Creek. Since it's tidal, I hope there is not alot of ice to paddle through. If that doesn't pan out, I will have to settle for waiting for opening day of trout (April 5th). Once I get my wife in the kayak, she doesn't want to get out. Dan "Stealthfisher" Doc NAFC LIFE MEMBER I FISH, THEREFORE I AM <*(((>>>< ><<<)))*> |

GOOOD MORRRRNING NEW JERSEY!!! I got out today (Wednesday), 67 degrees, cloudy, just a little drissle in the afternoon. Did some bank fishing. Caught two small bass, and a couple of crappie on a little yeller jig. I threw some spinners in the lake for a couple hours. Tried differnt ones, but not a bite. The lake was completley thawed out and there was a lot of action in the water. but no luck. It seems the Big Bass are being rather picky, But i can wait. I hope to get out Thursday, but we'll see. My wife might have some different plans for me. Have a good Day all!!

GOOOOD MORRRNING New JERSEY!!! I got out Friday on the kayak. Sunny and not much wind. Took a stick bait to em. It was the battle of the BASS and the CRAPPIE and the BASS won 8 to 5. Caught two nice size Bass( biggest of the new year so far) and the rest were small but still fun. The little Bass and all the Crappie took the Rapala right of the top off the water after a little twitching. It was fun watching them leap after it. You'd a thought it was spring the way they were hitting the top water. It's gonna get cold for a few days so back to chores. yeah, that thing is a joke, kinda. I get where they're comming from. I"ve been running a boat since I was a kid, my dad too. run a boat down the shore, and offshore for over 10 years, NOW I have to go get some kinda training?? they give you and opt out test, for us old timers, but you can only take it once, and have to pass. I still haven't gotten mine. I wouldn't be afraid to eat those fish. I mean, if the water was bad, the fish wouldn't survive, right? there are good eatin'!! the filet should be nice and white. Good luck on your test. |

I had to work that night so I just stayed up. Had to be at the Class at 7:30 am. I was pretty tired. A charter boat captain gives the class. It wasn't that bad, just a long day ( 7 and 1/2 hours ). Passed with flying colors. I don't think they fail any body. Now I'm legal! And they tell me since I fish Non-tidal water the state want $16 more dollars when I go to register and show the new certificate. Oh well. It's a cost I'll get my money's worth out of at least.

Come on March!!! Big toothy critters are a waitin'. been making some of my own Musky/Pike lures, and can't wait to try them out. At $30-$60 a pop, it's worth it. Gives u a little sence of pride too, just like making ur own flys, if u catch anything on them!! |

Yep, Your right, only two members in NJ. It will make for an interesting meet. I don't think we'll get such a good discount on T-Shirts. We got about 2 inches of snow, and then rain. I have been busy with stuff at home, so I haven't had much time to get out. I hope to get out soon if the weather cooperates.

GOOOOD MORRRNINNG NEW JERSEY!!!!! And a lovely cold morning it is too!! I'm hoping for mild weather on wed and thurs, like monday was ( about 52 degrees ) But I don't think that's gonna happen. I should probably say good night, because it's time for me to go to bed. Gotta get up at 7am. for the one daughter, then a cat nap. 8:15am for the other daughter , then a cat nap. 9:30am for the wife's doctor appointment and then hope to catch another cat nap before I'm off to work again.

GOOD MOrning New Jersey!!! I got out Monday for a little while. Caught a new personal record 13 bass and a Crappie( Most all little ones) on a stick bait. They are definitely waking from their winter slumber. Beautiful day in Mid sixties. I actually got a sunburn. I had fun. I needed it. Dan "Stealthfisher" Doc

WOW...great day! might get the boat out this weekend(I hope!!) pike should be getting active. the lake we fish for pike has some big crappies too. we caught quite a few last year 2-2.5 lbs, I had one in the summer chase a big lead head with a 6 in. shad right to the boat, had it on for a couple of seconds and lost it, had to be 3-3.5 lbs. I'm joansin' bad, get to get out soon. |

Alright Dan. You've inspired me to get my rear in gear and get out there. The weather is too nice to be anywhere but by the water. I just moved so I am going to be fishing unknown waters but I will post up any progress/findings.
Good job on keeping the topic going!

I know I had a reply on ur Brown. don't know what happened to it. I was thinking of the size Musky/Pike I could catch with that as BAIT!!! lol nice catch. I've heard of alot more guys getting 4 lb.+ trout this year. state must be stocking better or something. went out Sat. by myself, place we fished last fall for Muskies. never fished it in the spring. water might be a little cold yet. did get some Perch and a small crappie. not up in the weed beds yet. still deep. |

GOOOOD MORNNNINNNG NEW JERSEY!!!! I made a quick trip on the Kayak on Saturday. Caught three Bass on topwater. One was a nice size that exploded to the surface to swallow my U-Tail worm. I had a party to attend in the afternoon or I would have stayed for some more action. I might be able to get out early Sunday on a private lake a friend lives on. There are supposed to be some Big Bass swimming around this place. Wish me luck!! .gif) .gif) Dan "Stealthfisher" Doc

Now I feel bad Dan. I've been out the last 4 nites Wiper fishing, and u had to cut a good trip short. Had to fish between the rain drops, and even put on the "silly suits" from time to time. but as long as there's no lightning, we'll stick it out. The fish don't care, they're already wet! |

GOOOD MORNNNINGG NEW JERSEY!!! I've been in Fla. on vacation so I haven't been on much lately. Took the wife and kids to see Mickey Mouse. Relaxed on some beautiful Beaches in Clearwater. Only got to fish one day in FLA. Caught a bunch of Spanish Mackerel trolling the deep blue sea near the Skyview Bridge. Tasty little buggers!! I was hoping for something more exotic. Very choppy, more than normal I'm told. I wanted to Bass fish, but didn't want to seem selfish. The vacation was a family one so it didn't seem appropriate considering how many days I normally fish at home. Next time I'm going to make it a point to hit some of those FLA lakes for a FLA strain of Bass. It's good to be back in NJ. I'm getting back in the swing, going fishing in a few hours.
