Any winter Bass fishing tips for a guy in North Bergen New Jersey? I fish a 15 acre pond that has yielded some nice bass in the spring. Never tried in winter. But I'm bored as hell and I'm ready to put on my gloves and see what's biting. Any tactics for sluggish winter bass would be appreciated.

HI, Some people  tell me to use swim baits or rattletraps.

I like to use a deadsticking approach with something like a suspending jerkbait or even some kind of soft plastic shad or trout shaped lure.  They winter stock some of the lakes around here so I think some bass like the trout lure. Bass will hit it either as it stands still or just as you give it a little jerk. I hope to get out Thursday. I'll let you know if this is still working in this cold water of late December.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hey, I got out today in the ditches. Great December weather.  It might be my last use of this years license. It was in the 40's and sunny alot of the day with little or no wind. Caught a nice Crappie right of the bat on a trout spinner.( it was left on the rod from a previous trip)  just threw it to see what might hit it. Then switched to a suspended stick bait and fished it real slow for a couple hours with no luck. Then put on a baby brush hog (Black w/Red) and just let it drop,  with an occaisonal twitch. Had a couple hits and then finally set hook on a Bass. Drug my kayak into the lake and fished spinners the rest of the day for Trout with no sucess. All in all a beautiful day on the water.

There's nothing like being on the water in all seasons. I might get some time tommorrow if the weather holds out.  Friends of mine say I'm crazy for fishin in this weather.  90 or 9 degrees, I still love it. I think you have to go out on some of those not so nice days to be able to appreciate the good days.

Well I've been out several of these very warm wierd Jan days we've been having, and nothing, not a nibble, not even a sniff. Night crawlers, jigs, grubs, you name it. Nothing works. Oh well with weather like this I have to get out and try.

    Hey,

I got out again on Monday (61deg.) and Tuesday (67deg.).

Monday, I fished small jigs and hooked a bunch of crappie and a pickerel, no bass.

Tuesday, I decided to concentrate most of my day just for bass. I used a Powerstick minnow ( I think that's what it's called) and caught 2 bass. Even though they were "future big boys", I was still happy.  Decided to try for anything so  I swithched over to a swirly tail jig and caught 2 more bass.   Today was set aside for chores and installing my new computer so I could get back to talking to you guys. I hope to get out Thursday. Another mild weather day.
