Hi there I am new in the area and would really like to go fishing some where. Does any one have any suggestions on which waters might be ok to fish. I fish both fresh and salt water and it does not matter if the fish are big or small I catch them all since I do not eat them any ways. Its just a past time hobby that keeps me from getting in trouble when I am bord.

I do not really live in jersey I am right near Philadelphia but there is no fishing in PA almost all there fish is stocked so it gets fished out in a few days from when they get released. So I figured I might try the ocean but I do not have a boat so that is out of the question

    Hey RS,
I was born and raised in South Philly then crossed the bridge to live in Gloucester county NJ. I just moved out of South Jersey, Mantua and now reside in central Virginia. I am missing NJ a lot beacuse I still haven't found the abundance of fishing spots like south Jersey has. I agree with Foxman about the Salem Canal and Especially the Ditches at Greenwich lake. I spent a lot of time on my kayak exploring all those ditches. I accessed them from the Greenwich lake unimproved boat ramp right at the end of the parking lot by the Bar. Did you mention if you had a boat, kayak or a canoe? You can fish from the bank from quite a bit of spots and also access the lake from the bank as well which is stocked with trout at least twice a year. I also liked to fish Stewarts Lake in Woodbury NJ. You can access that from behind the YMCA on rte. 45 near Underwood Hospital. I also spent many a day Alycon Lake in Pitman NJ. There is a good boat ramp there in the back and some bank access up front on both sides. Depending how far you want to drive, there are so many places in the Gloucester, Salem, and Cumberland county areas. Giampietros Pond in Vineland NJ, Schadlers Sand wash near Carneys Point and Clementies( I think near exit 4 off 295 south) Swedesboro lake, The DOD, Harrisonville,
Elmer Lake, Shaws Mill Pond in Millville NJ and of course Union Lake ( the biggest in the south Jersey area) .
Good luck and let me know if you hit any of these spots. It will be great to hear about some of my old haunts.

I lived in NJ south, Gloucester County West Deptford and Paulsboro. I fished almost the entire South Jersey, I think the best places I use to fish was Manitco ponds in Millville, Williamstown lake, Lincoln lake, Harrisonville lake, Clarks Pond, Sicklerville lake and the NJF&G ponds in Sicklerville. Then you have Daretown lake, Dennisville lakes 1&2, in West Deptford on Crown Point Rd. near the GLoucester county treatment plant in ponds that is tide water. Mullica Hill lake, Swedesboro lake, also check the small creeks on 295 Hwy where ever a bridge is and fenced. Gibbstown canals are actually floodgates. Another place is Camden county park around air port circle on Hwy130. Man I can go on and on. But I have fished ponds/lake that is private using a canoe and not cutting fences or portgage around to enter. Don't forget Parvin State park.

    Thanks Dennis,
You hit a few more I have frequented.
Daretown,  Dennisville, Manantico, Logan, Crown Pointe Rd., Manasquan, Cooper river, Mantua Creek, Mullica Hill Pond.   Man I miss New Jersey!!
I have been searching for some places here in Virginia, but it seems any good water is surrounded by houses and turned private.  The Chickahominy Lake and River has been very good to me here though.   I have fished there near Walkers dam and caught Bass, Crappie, Yellow Perch, sunnies, Stripers. One of my first bass there was between 6 and 7 pounds.   It also holds  Herring, Shad, Bowfin, Gar, and big Catties.
I live near the Swift Creek Reservoir which is supposed to have some good fishing but have only been on the water once so far.  Post some reports of your Jersey exploits if you get a chance.   It will be good to hear about the Tight lines of NJ.

    Later,

    Dan

Dan: I live in Eden, N.C. now and it is just on the boarder of VA. Ridgeway/Martinsville. I haven't been in N.J; since 1990. I moved to MD Baltimore and then to N.C. in fact I stopped fishing for over 20 years, so I restarted fishing this year more than I did last year.Try the New River and James River for lakes/ Reservoirs try Smith Mountain Lake, Philpot Res. and Fairy Stone. Smith River and the Yadkin River and then Dan River. But as for me my best so far is a 5.5

My best in N.J. was a 6# LM, 6.6 Chain Pickerel, caught that on a pond little past Logan Pond on 295 south bound.

P.S. MY WIFE IS MY FISHING PARTNER WHEN I GO OUT IN MY BOAT, FOR CATFISH ON THE DELAWARE RIVER. SIXE RANGE FROM 2LB. TO FIVE AND UP. IF YOUR WIFE LIKES TO FISH THAT IS OUTSTANDING . MY WIFE OF 36 YEARS STARTED FISHING WITH ME ABOUT EIGHT YEARS AGO, AND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE HER WITH ME. WHEN SHE GETS TIRED OF FISHING, SHE LAYS DOWN AND READS FOR A WHILE.
