On sunday 6 10 I took my youngest son and his oldest son catfishing on the Delaware River. We set our anchor out in 15 (low tide) ans 25 (high tide) foot out by the main channel right before it drops off to 45 to 50 feet deep. We were about 3/4 mile from River Winds Complex and Redbank National Park . We had night crawlers and frozen raw shrimp. My son and I started with a cut piece of shrimp and my grand-son started useing thenight crawlers. The shrimp wasn't in the water more than three minuets before we got our first bite.
From that time untill we left to go home, we caught catfish almost one after another from 8:45am untill we used our last piece of shrimp at around 3:35pm. We could not keep our lines in the water, the cats were eating like there was no tomorrow. all told, we caught somewhere around 55 or 60 Catfish from a couple of 6 inch cats ( 4 ) to the bigger ones we caught that weighted 4.5 pounds. Most of the catfish were in the 2.5 to 3.5 pound range, with 6 being 4 pound to 4.5 pounds.
My son wanted to bring some home for a fish BBQ, so we keep 10 catfish over the 3.25 pound range. As far as the might crawlers, my grandson cought some fair size white perch with them. He did use some shrimp but he liked the worms better for some reason. C. J. (my grand-son's name we call him) also caught a very nice 2 and a half foot ell, which was the first ell he had ever caught. When he first saw it he yelled out, POPPOP look, I caught a snake. Even after I told him what it was and showed him everything about the ell, he wanted no part of it.
Along with the catfish we caught, I caught two Striped Bass one about 7 inches long and the second was about 14 inches long. By the way I caught both Stripers on shrimp. Here are a couple pictures of a couple of the fish we caught.
