Live in NJ, rented a cabin for a week starting July 4th. Looking for any input about the lake. Puchased the Hot Spots Map, has a lot of spots marked. Thanks, Walt

I haven't been up there for 3-4 years but always enjoy my time when I go.
Where are you staying on the lake?

Here is the link for the Black Lake Message Board:  http://www.blacklakeny.com/forum/index.php

Probably the best place I know for information about fishing at the lake.

    Hi Walt,

I have been going to Black Lake for a whole lot of years and normaly I would be there right now fishing for Northern Pike. This year we are going to Lake Patterson, Ontario instead. Anyway, use the hotspots map it's pretty accurate. Depending on what you are fishing for there are a lot of bays great for NP and bass along with crappie. Only problem being that late in the season all the bays will be topped out with massive amounts of weeds making it hard to use artificials. When we go up it's usually right after iceout so the weeds arn't an issue. Directly across from Lonesome Bay next to the opposite shore line is a 40ft. trench full of eyes. Deep Bay is good for LMB and NP using black buzzbaits in weedy areas and chartruse #5 Mepps undressed in-line spinners. If you are using a boat make sure you take along a GPS or you could have some trouble finding home. All the islands on the lake look alike and there is a lot more water to get lost in than meets the eye. Take a ride up the river on the SE end of the lake. (I can't remember its name) but the fishing in the river is good for bass and notherns and it will take you to an old fortress that made cannon balls during the Civil War(so I've been told)  and you will find a beautiful waterfall with it. The river is deep enough so don't worry about your prop. I could go on for a week, I love this lake. If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.

    Hi Walt,

I have never flatlined anything in BL but it is a good way to fish. Something I forgot too comment on is the rocks in the lake. Be sure to read your bouys and keep an eye out in front of you. They do a really good job marking the rocks but you still got be careful. Average depth of the lake is not much more than 12-16ft with the river about 20-40ft deep. Trolling walleye cranks in the trench at Lonesome Bay will probably produce some "eyes". Frankly Walt, your better off working deep weed lines for NP, LMB and Crappie. I can't say for sure but I don't think you'll get a boat into the bays because the weeds will be topped out and really thick. Scumb Frogs work pretty good in the muck bit I still prefere black buzzers and chartruse #5 Mepps in-lines. North of the bridge around .05 mile on the right is a good bay for LMB and NP and probably won't be totally topped out with weeds. Like I said in my last post the river that will take you to the old armory is good for LMB and NP in some of the small bays off the river. The falls is good also. Two years ago I caught a Gar (by accident) that went 40" and I got it under the falls. The Log Cabins has a bait shop and tackle store and small grocery store along with live bait shop along with a gift shop if you need anything. Oh, by the way, the falls are in Edwardsville if that helps any. It should be about a 6 mile run from where you are staying.

Well enough for now. We leave for Canada this saturday and will be gone till the following week. If I don't talk too ya again, goodluck at BL.

i have fished the lake from black lake marina, and although im the worst fisherman in the world i have always caught nice fish in the lake. the weeds are the only problem you will have in catching fish. I have caught everything including some nice cat fish. Just a hint if you dont have att cell phone dont expect to call home.
