I do not have the magic bullet here to catch Salmon, but I can offer a few thoughts. Just like fishing Lake Trout or other fish species, it all depends on the water temperature, depth of water, the habitat and how or when you will be fishing. If you are using downriggers, watch for the thermocline and fish around it. Troll at 2 to 3 knots with a number of different spoons or streamers. If water temperature is still on the cool side, you can find the landlocks up toward the surface and try flat line trolling. One of my favorites in small lakes and ponds like Colby is to troll a Lake Clear Wobbler with a night crawler behind it. What fish can resist an easy meal like that? Check with the locals and ask for some advice. |
