Some of us members from the ohio chapter are putting together another panfish tournament. It will be held on May 21st of this year at CJ Brown located at Buck Creek State Park. This is east of Springfield. You do not need to be a member of the ohio chapter to fish in it. So invite your friends and join us for a day of fun fishing and a fish fry afterwards.

LOL. Big ole panfish. Can't weigh them in for the regular tournament , but they can win the one big fish pool. Larry if you are looking for a partner Lowell is trying to find someone also. He knows CJ Brown like the back of his hand.

What is the horsepower rating for this lake? Since we moved to Akron,I am having difficulty finding my lake maps and other fishing aids. Bought a boat. Need to buy some batteries and fish finder. The one it came with is junk.  What time is this tourney and what is the entry fee? Maybe I can talk Big Dog or Super Switcher into coming along.

Good to hear from you skeeter. Horsepower is unlimited. There is a $10 per team entry fee and 2 optional big fish pools that are $1 a piece. You can catch either bluegills or crappies and we weigh in 20 fish per team. Most weight wins. Pay 2 or 3 places depending on number of teams. We clean the fish there and fry them up either at the campground or a shelter house,.

Here's your map guys. You should be able to copy and save this to your computer to print out. It's 1048 x 7 something so it's a good size. See how this works and if you need something different let me know. I can put it in an Adobe Reader too if that would work better.

A "Friend" was out upon CJ today; he tends to quietly scope out whom is catching what and where; he stated many crappies (including his 16 keepers were being caught on the DEEP side of the cover; jigs and/ or floats, the 1st set of posts nearest the boat ramp (#12, "Crappie City") had 5 boats tied off at 1 time earlier, #8A and B (Crabill House "graveyard") had 4 boats in a very small area, although he hit it later; several others were trolling W to E just S of the #18 series ("gravel bar"), and close to a dozen were fishing/ jigging #19 and #19A W of the NW tip of the Campers Point. He didn`t go further into the N 1/2 of CJ. A person at the Boat Ramp fishing the #11 series outside got a 14" crappie on a slipfloat at 10? fow; most of his were caught 10- 14 fow...

Wish it wasn't so far away or i would make the trip down there. We just got done having a TwistedWhiskerz Katfish tourny there on Sat (16) nice little lake to fish on. You can tell the water is down a little but no to bad. We ran into some 1'1/2 water down by goose island. Once you hit the no wake zone your at about 6-8' of water. Pulled some nice cats from there so i'm sure you will have some nice gills as well. Good luck to all who fish it.

where are you located at Ohio catter? I know with the price of gas anymore it makes it tuff to make a long trip to go fishing. Maybe if you could get several buddies to pitch in with the cost and driving it would not be quite so bad.

Skeeter, have not seen you on here for awhile. I was just checking to see if you and Herchel are still going to be fishing with us on the 21st. Have you talked to Bigdog lately. Have'nt made contact with Big Dog. Left note on his door but never got call back. Don't know if I will be able to come or not. Motor for boat in shop. Waiting on technician to call me. Stan if you are reading this, get off the 'puter and put my motor back together. It was supposed to be done this weekend. And I wanted to run it a couple of times before I haul it across Ohio and find out it's not running right. And I don't bank fish much anymore cause those screws in my legs have been hurting more since I have been getting older. Or maybe it's just the bad weather.

Skeeter, would guess take US 71 South to US70 west to US 40, 1st light after getting on US 40 is Bird rd. Take bird rd due north untill you see a large lake...Main boat ramp will be to your Left...right now CJ is up about 3.5` over summer pool; crappies are starting to hit better...see you all there.

Stan's ears must have been burning. Motor is ready. Got to pick it up Friday. Taking the boat down to Stans' house to remount motor on boat. We were thinking of running through the woods. My Explorer does NOT get good mpg. I got a Ohio Gazetter. Is there a bait shop around there that will be open? Or should I load up the minnie well here and run the aerator off the pickup? Hershy wants me to come down Friday and head down there Friday night. He is not eager at all. C u all on the lake at daybreak?

Coming in off US 40 on the East side of Springfield from US 70 East; 1st light is Bird Rd. Turn Right and Jake`s Marine is on the corner. Generally GOOD bait. Get back onto Bird Rd and go due North to the lake. Other bait shops are the Boat house on Croft Rd (turn Left onto Robert Eastman Rd just before entering the Park); BEST selection of bait is C and J`s on SR 4 (if you want it, THEY got it) get onto Robert Eastman Rd, turn Right at stop sign, onto Croft Rd. Turn Right at light onto SR 4, go N 1/2 mile. Limited parking, usually crowded, guess why! Alot of bigger crappies are being caught on the deeper edges of the cover, try "Glo" jigs and a minnow. A snagless jig will get you into the thick stuff and help pry them out of it...

If you have the money it would be much simplier to hire a professional crew that does this everyday and they have the equipment to get it done fast. They would be be in and out in a week and save your back alot of aches and pains. But if you don't have anything better to do, it would save you a few grand by doing it youself. Good luck with that anyway.

Agreed as far as they would get it done faster, but will also need to chisel out the split mortar seems and fill in the cracks with hydraulic cement; was going to remove the single pane basement windows and just fill the blocks under the openings completely full too with galvenized rebarin it then replace the windows with energy efficient newer versions before sealing and painting it. then refinishing it. Got 3 estimates from $9000 to $11,000 for the inside and $7,000 to $9,000 to trench, repair, seal and membrane and insulate the outside walls including adding 6" drainage tile and back filling it with pea gravel. For $16 to $20 thousand I`ll just do it myself. Will obviously take longer, but will be certain it WON`T EVER leak again (short of a major earthquake)

Apparently, most of the estimated cost is of course the labor and renting a Trac Hoe. Ain`t CRAZY about doing it, but can see no real alternative that will ENSURE it doesn`t just keep on leaking. Most products i looked at have a 5 yr "guarentee". And DO NOT want to "re do" it in 5 yrs...will do most of the digging at night when it`s cooler. Interesting developement at CJ, I guess some of the guys whom helped do the later parts of the "project" are upset we were REQUIRED to post them and make them "public knowledge". They seem to feel that "they helped' and even though they are in a public lake that they are "their' property" and shouldn`t be used by others. Sort of keep them "secret...GOOD GRIEF ! Ironically, right now there aren`t a whole lot of fish on them, as almost everything in the lake is gorging on the very abundant shad. Will WONDERS never cease? Even more ironic was that we were informed from the beginning that as soon as they touched the bottom and came to rest, they became the property of the Corps of Engineers...oh WELL !

There are so many brush piles in the lake now that if someone is fishing one , just go to another. I am sure there are some that will be more productive than others but these local guys should be able to find one of them that has fish on them. Let them whine, they will get over it sooner or later. You know Lowell, I think we are about the only 2 that post much on this site. Would be nice to hear from some other Ohio folk once in awhile.

Hey Larry. Not for awhile. I have just been catching little bluegiils from one pond and putting them into the pond where we are having the kids fishing derby in a couple weeks. We are looking at a panfish tournament in October, maybe at Alum Creek. Will you be able to make it.

Just wanted to put out the dates again for the fall tournament to see if there is a preference. Oct 9th or Oct 23rd. Voice an opinion if you would like to fish in it. Probably will be At Alum Creek or maybe lake Loramie.
