JustDave here. Live between Portland and Salem and fish mostly coast rivers for Salmon and Steelhead 50-100 trips a year. I will fish 10-20 days a year for other species. I fish from bank and drift boat.

If you are a NAFC Member that lives in Oregon, Please sign in and introduce yourself, tell us a little bit about you and what part of the state you live in... Wink<!--graemlin:;)--> You may have signed in on one of the older post's here, but this is going to be the newest sign in spot to give us all updated information on exactly how many members there are from your state that are here on the Bulletin board... Big Grin<!--graemlin::D--> That way if a fellow member would like to organize a meet or start up a state chapter, you'll have an idea of how many members are in your state... Wink<!--graemlin:;)--> Also, be sure to check out the other new post titled " NAFC Oregon Chapter ???" and put your thoughts, ideas and questions on that topic right there... I live in Klamath Falls, in the Past 20 years I have fished exclusively for rainbows and browns. Last year a friend got me hooked on BASS! I fish 50-75 days a year. Mostly from the bank(I have no boat). Trout: lakes and small steams, Bass: lakes and ponds.
    Good fishing all!!

I live in Scio (25 miles SE of Salem). I mostly fish for trout, kokanee, and bass. I have a Smokercraft 17.5' boat I do most of my fishing from but also use a 12' when motors are not allowed and shore fish as well.

    Josh,
You might try a little farther east at Hermann creek down by the mouth. Lot of Steelhead and Salmon duck into the cooler water to rest on their way up the Columbia. Can be crowded, but productive. If you have a small boat or pontoon, you'll see where to anchor up. Fish the channel going out to Columbia. PM if you need directions or a partner.

    Yeah,
Definately not the place for solitude. Some days during the week it's not as bad. We've always used the boat, which can be bumper boats at times as well. I was in Sunriver last week and the fly guys are getting ready to head to the mouth area. Good luck up there and keep us posted.

Hey Pinksalmon, welcome to Life Membership... Cool<!--graemlin::cool:--> I live in Ohio, but try to help out my fellow club members all over by getting a list of members set up for each state. I would like to encourage members from each state, that is, that has enough members in their state, to get organized and start getting together at least once per year and having a fishing meet. Also, if someone from your home state would like to step up and help out by getting a list of members from Oregon posted on here, similar to the one I have posted on the Ohio page under "NAFC Ohio Chapter", that would be great. Just go through the posts and record each different member that posted, along with their location in that state, and start making a list. You can also go to the member directory and look for members from your home state, contact them and let them know what you are doing. That's all there is to it. If you need help, all you gotta do is ask... Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->. Have a good one. Dennis.. Cool<!--graemlin::cool:-->

It's been awhile since I've visited this board, just dropped by to say hello to all.

Anyway, I'm a trout fisherman, I fish the upper Rogue and the high Cascade Lakes.
I've been a life member since 2006, with all the fishing line the club sends me I don't think I'll have to buy line for a while. LOL The pole and reel I received was pretty nice, I had a chance to break it in this past spring and summer.
I'll try and not be such a stranger to this forum.

I spend more time there as well, but they are getting this one back in shape, and I think you'll see a migration again.  Don't know this one will regain all it's past glory, but we'll see.

    Hello Gentleman,

Is there a different NAFC forum?  Last time I was on these forums was 3 or 4 years ago. Everthing is different now. I remember the old forum had quite a bit of traffic. Its nice to be able to correspond with local people who know our waters rather than a blanket answer which could be applied to any water.

    Regards,

    Bill

One of the members got us to his site a couple times when this board went down.

    www.nafc.eamped.com

If you're looking for closer to home?

    www.ifish.net

    www.qualityfishing.net

These are a couple here in Oregon.  The second is out of the Gresham area, loose moderators, lot of kidding, good info.  Ifish is from the coast, lot of members with dffering points of view.

My name is James and I live in Cornelius, OR (west of Hillsboro) which means that I spend a good deal of time after work at Hagg Lake fishing for bass.  I'm hoping to get some late-season steelhead fishing in this year, but this is my first year so I'm not entirely certain where the "good spots" are (not having a boat also limits my options).  If anyone is interested in a fishing partner or has any steelhead tips let me know!

    Hi James,

Welcome. My name is Bill; I lived in the mid Willamette valley (Albany, Jefferson, Scio area) for over 26 years. Now I live n central Oregon. I fish for most varieties of fish and I have several different boats. If you are ever interested in an fishing trip in the high cascade lakes area when the weather is better and the season opens let me know, although it seems whenever I mention boats no one wants to talk to me anymore. Once I finish some repairs I will have my Columbia River / Ocean Boat ready again then I’ll hit some walleye and sturgeon fishing.  Aside from the guys at work that always want to go along I would like to hook up with other club members. When the snow files and the weather is bad I spend time making fishing gear for the next season and fixing equipment. Today I am casting fishing weights and downrigger cannon balls. To be completely honest I don’t get out much during the winter my job keeps me tied up (I am a machinist and metal fabricator) and when the weather is really bad. It’s too dangerous to pull a trailer when everything is iced up. Hopefully there are club members close to you that fish all year long.

    Good Fishing,

    Bill

    Welcome James,

I'm in Wilsonville and do quite a bit of Stelhead fishing.  We're in prime time right now, so we'll have to get together and I can show a little bit probably.  I'm starting a couple new jobs this next week, so I'm not sure how much time I'll be having, but we can likely find some time.  PM me with your schedule and we'll try to work something out.

I've got my drifter in the garage right now, but it should be time to float again soon.   I also fish from the bank quite a bit this time of year, a lot of times because boats aren't welcome on the rivers I like to fish.

Ogre and Bill, I'll fish you with guys when the snow melts.  We attempted to go this morning, but the freezing rain turned us around.

Welcome aboard Richard.  Good info and people on the board.  The club changed the format of the Board back in November.  A lot of the members quit coming to the site for a while, as it was slow, different, and hard to get around in.  They are slowly but surely coming back.  I live down in Wilsonville, so maybe we can get a coffee sometime.  Cruise around the board and join in when you feel like it.  You may also want to go to the "New Member" forum and introduce yourself.

My name is Brian, I have been a life member since 99. I live in Portland now, but I used to live in Eagle Creek for 18 years so I know the waters there pretty well. I am also a member of the Oregon Fishing Club for almost 8 years now. I fish for trout/steelhead/salmon for the most part. Most of the OFC properties have bass/bluegills/crappie so from time to time I fish for them too.

Mostly a bank fisherman, but I do have a float tube for use in the OFC lakes and ponds. I also like to go to Harriet Lake or Clear Lake in the cascades for trout from the float tube. Would like to hook up with someone for sturgeon fishing. Would be willing to help pay for bait/gas for the experience. My email is: kc7hsq at comcast.net  Feel free to contact me if you want to go fishing if youre in the portland area. I would be more than happy to share what knowledge I have for fishing.

I live 20 miles north of Grants Pass. I have been a life member since 2006. I am a bass fisherman first, but i pretty much fish everything. I have 2 boats, a 16 foot and a 10 foot jon boat. I live in southern Oregon and mainly fish cascade lakes. I am fishing the Rogue river right now for salmon, and mainly fish from Hog creek to Grave creek but recently i am going to Rainy Falls. I love fishing with a passion

hi, my name is Frank Stigliano life member since 92.

Just wanted to find out if any club members like pikeminnow fishing.

The season starts soon and as for me I am really looking forward to it.

I had a pretty good year last year and can hope to do better this season.

lf anyone has an interest you can reach me at frank97038@yahoo.com

In any case consider this an open invitation to come out, fish for a hard fighting fish, and help the endangered species native to the Columbia river system.

My name is Ed, and I have lived in the Lebanon, Albany area all my life.  I did a lot of fishing as a kid, then for some silly reason stopped fishing for about a dozen years.  Now that my kids are older, I am trying to get back into the game.  I am surprised just how much I don't know, and how much I have missed out.  So far, it has been local pond fishing, but we are trying to expand our horizons, and yeserday, my son and I got our first sturgeon experienced.  We caught a lot of fish, all between 30 and 37 inches, no keepers, but it was still a great day.  We want to learn how to fish our local rivers for Salmon and Steelhead, so any advice we can get, I am all ears.

Howdy from Salem, my name is Jason; I just joined the club last month and so far it's worth it. I like to fish anywhere possible for all species. I mostly fish at Detoirt and Foster Lakes. I do some at Green Peter as well as the Santiam River in Sweet Home and below Detoirt Lake. Hope to run into some club members sometime. I've only restarted fishing (see new members "New member from Oregon") about 6 months ago and could use some tips / pointers on fish'n the river for steel head / salmon, i.e. type of lures / bait; poles & line; ect... Also what is a steel head / salmon tag for?

    Welcome Jason,

The Tag is for recording the fish you keep.  There is a section in the regulations dedicated to filling out the tag properly.  If you have a Salmon, Steelhead, or Sturgeon in your posession and your tag is not filled out, you will receive a fairly hefty fine.  They will also have the authority to confiscate your rod, your vehicle and other not so pleasant  things.  Taking of fish without filling in the tag is considered poaching and has some pretty serious consequences.

Lately I have been fishing out of Deep OBay with the Oregon PVA. I am a disabled Vet with nothing else to do. I am able to tie flies and rods. My favorite saying. (TGIF) Thank God I Fish. Hey Mark,

Welcome to Oregon.  You have a lot going on right in your back yard.  Columbia R offers just about any species you want to fish for, Salmon, Steelhead, Walleye, Bass, Shad, Carp, etc.  And don't forget the Pike Minnow Bounty program where you can earn a bit of cash for fishing.  Then the Snake and Grand Ronde are not too far from you to the east.  John Day River to the west has world class Small Mouth and a good run of Steelhead.  The Umitilla River kicks out fish as well.  As for the how and exactly where, check with your local shops, Im sure they will prove helpful.  And don't be afraid to head north into Washington.  Look in the Washington section and search out Yellow Bear.

Shaniko is a good starting place along the John Day (although you are on the east side) for smallmouth fishing. The bite usually starts in mid May and really gets going  in June. Around my neck of the woods which is Central Oregon we have Prineville Res. and Crane Prairie which have great bass fishing. Prineville also sports a huge crappie and catfish population.  Both of these bodies of water have bass tournaments in late June.  The biggest bass I have landed was a 5 pounder. ODFW does a random sampling of the lakes to see what kind of fish are in the lakes and how big the fish are. One of my neighbors is part of that process. He told me there are bass large enough to break the Oregon state record in Crane Prairie if people could catch them. However, they did not get big by being easy to catch. LOL

There are numerous areas in the Columbia that have healthy bass populations too.

    NMarks,

Pretty much all of the lakes you find along 101 are full of fish.  ODFW does a lot of stocking up and down the coast.  Once they finish with the bigger lakes, any excess fish are put into the little puddles you see off the highway.  Some look too small to fish, but don't be shy, try 'em.  Summer Steelhead should be in the rivers pretty much all the way up and down the coast and throughout the systems.  Small jigs or thumb nail size baits of eggs under a bobber, small spinners, spoon and plugs will get you into fish.  The winter run Steelhead will come into the rivers after the Fall Chinook aind start showing up in mid to late November and continue through April.  The hachery on the NF Nehalem will truck excess fish to Coffinberry and Lost lake to give you a shot at them on lake.  Put in your time, they are definately worth it and my favorite fish to catch.

I often am looking for someone to go out with me. Since I retired in June, I am looking toward fishing during the week. I live in Washington County roughly 45 miles from the coast.

Welcome to Oregon.  First of all, what are you looking to catch?  Rickreal Cr running through Dallas opens for Trout fishing on the 28th as do most of the creeks and rivers in the Willamette zone.  Artificial lures and flies only.  Pick up a copy of the regulations and make sure you flollow them.  If I were to fish it, I would slide a 5mm red bead down my leader above the hook and drift it through some of the deeper pockets and slot.  There are also a ton of farm ponds around Dallas/Monmoth/Salem area with many different species available.  Jump over the coast range to the rivers and creeks and lakes (again check the regs).  Lakes are pretty much open all year, rivers on the coast usually have different sections open all year for Salmon/Steelhead and limited for Trout.  Winter Steelhead are pretty much done and Spring Chinook are showing up in the rivers now.  Summer Steelhead will start up in a month or so.  Pick pretty much any lake along Highway 101 along the coast and you'll find fish, even if it looks too small.  You'll find Trout, Bass, Crappie, Blue Gill, Catfish.  Fish the jetties along the coast for many different saltwater species.

Basically, you have arrived in fisherman's heaven.  If it's wet and flowing, there'll be fish.  If it's wet in August, there'll be fish.  Little creeks you can step across will have fish, all of the rivers will have fish, most of the lakes and ponds will have fish.  If it's private property, ask permission.  Worst that can happen is they say no and you move on to the next.  Follow the regs and you can't go wrong.
