. i had checked in with a buddy down at the steps , he
said most of the folks down there only had one fish , a few had two .
so i went down to the primitive launch where i met texan4ut . nobody
was having any luck there . the river had a few kayaks out and a lot of
power boats . i decided to run up river and around the first bend ,
there was a power boat anchored in the channel . to avoid him , i went
to the inside of the bend . i was only about 400yds up river , muddy
island with a stump in front of me , brush pile in the middle behind me
. i tied off to a stump between the two , stepped out in two foot of
water and started casting a jig along the shelf . i got about three on
the run in open water , but hooked about 20 or so as the jig fell off
the shelf . only 8 keepers but had a blast . on my short paddle back ,
i was approached by two kayakers . come to find out they were game
wardens . very cool to see them out paddling . my lesson was , don't
worry about the reports , hit the spots others are passing up , and try
different lures before leaving a spot . after working 8 different lures
, i found some silver glitter tubes with a chartreuse backing and that
was the ticket . fishing is life , everything else is just details . and i prefer my tails with specks or spots .15 miles NE of austin |
