Hi All. On saturday my wife booted me out of the house because I was getting on her nerve's. I took a drive up American fork canyon to fish the creek. There was quit a bit of traffic due to snow shoer's and what not. Anyway the snow was still a bit deep and it was hard to find a pulloff that wasn't snowed in. It was a pretty day getting away from the inversion. I did not catch any fish but am convinced that had I come prepaired a bit better to wade the stream(it was difficult to walk the bank with the snow and Ice) I would have done pretty good being able to cover more water. This peacefull time away from the road did me a world of good and my lungs also thanked me for the bit of fresh air.

Great Let us know how you do. I usually don't start fishing the creek until about the first of march. I also enjoy the area above tibble fork. Less people to deal with.
I think you can do pretty good in the summer too. I just prefer spring and fall. the canyon gets alot of use in the summer. The lower portion gets stocked with rainbows so during this time of year its pretty much a put and take fishery. I don't know if the upper portion gets stocked but Tibble and silver lake flats do. You can check out the recent stocking levels on the DWR website. I usually use small spinners for the browns. I have heard there are also brookies and cutts but have never caught any. I feel that the better bet during summer is the upper portion or head up to silver lake flats area. the tibble fork can get a bit crowded. quit a bit of the stream is pretty tight so if you are fishing lures or flies be prepaired for short tricky cast in alot of areas. I have taken up fly fishing and am looking foreward to doing some up here. any good tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
Glad to hear you did good UT fisher. Just curios, what lenth is your 3 wt. I am caught between going short to work around all the streamside obstructions or going long to add to my reach for those hard to get places. I am not that experienced when it comes to flyfishing but usually go long when fishing with spinners. I believe the stream is a little more open right above tibble fork but gets pretty thick further up. its true someone is not likely to take a lunker but you may be surprised at some of the browns in tibble fork, I intend to find out just how true that statement is some day.
hey utfisher. Just purchased a 7 ft 5 weight. its a cheepo but it feels good to me and should work fine for American fork or similar sized waters. have you been up lately? if so how's the water looking? still have not gotten any responses on the get together.
ya I know what you mean about yard work. I was a bit surprised this morning to wake up to as much snow as we had. I had actually planned to go up to tibble fork with my son last sunday but got caught up in other stuff. been pretty busy with a new baby and all also. Basically I was looking for a serviceable short fly rod for small streams around the area. I didnt have enough money to afford something a bit nicer so I bought an eagle claw featherlight at walmart for under $20. I was a bit skeptical because I was unfamiliar with using a fiberglass rod and I am pretty new to fly fishing anyway. The more I play with it the more I like it however. I like the action and it feels good plus it has a comfortable appeal and takes me back to when my dad used to let me borrow one of his eagle claw pack rods.
