I live in waynesboro and have been in love with and fishing the south river for many years. My largest bass came from an ox bow just above the conflunence at port republic. Most of the year I fly fish in the waynesboro area for trout and carp but as the weather warms I spend alot of time at grand caverns. if you ever  want company on the water let me know

I have fished the Shenandoah River down stream from Luray for many years.  Before the fish kills you could catch smallmouth with almost anything but lately baits I have had best luck with are swim baits and grubs with a spinner.  Largemouth bass which I catch more often now since there are fewer smallmouths I use buzz bates, rattle traps, and grubs with a spinner. For pan fish, I use in-line spinner baits.  Has anyone caught any muskie on the Shenandoah?  I had read before the state had stocked the river.  A couple years ago I caught a 4 inch fingerling when I was pan fishing.  Since then I have caught nothing.  I would love to catch a nice sized muskie, like I have caught in Minnesota.

I fished the Luray section of the river many, many times as a kid. We would camp out on the river and either walk upstream with float tubes and fish back to camp or take a canoe up to the low-water bridge outside of Luray and fish back to camp.

Even with the fish kills, the fishing is still ok. But, not nearly what is used to be.

    I'll be there tomorrow

    Best bet for Smallies -

3cm or 5cm Rapala 'Floaters', on ultralight rods, from canoe.  Cast out & be ready! Last trip was a bit 'weak' (late May), but still had 40-50 for me, and the same for my wife in 3.5 - 4 hours...

i fish the south fork out of elkton i drop at fords landing and float down about seven miles. i like using coffee tubes grenn pumkin purple in the current for smallies. i use 5 inch senkos watermelon red for large mouth. i went last week and caught a 4 pound 1 ounce lgbass, 4 pound 3 ounce lgbass, 4 pound 15 ounce lgbass, 3 pond 2 ounce small mouth bass, and many one and two pound bass. they say fish kills in the area affected alot of fish but i havent seen it affect but the catfish and the hogsuckers. the bass fishing and the muskie fishing is still going strong.
