Ok, my first post didn't work, actually, because I had to sign off, not realizing my post would even show up. Anyway, I'll be visiting my mom and dad in Faifax around the 3rd week of June until the 3rd week of July and would love to fish Burke Lake again. So keep those fishing reports coming because I'm reading them, trying to decide which hand poured soft plastic baits to bring, ha ha. Steve |

No prob, I love Shad and Striper fishing too . I grew up fishing with my grandfather and uncle as they were both charter boat captains on the Chesapeake Bay and we make some dynamite soft plastic eels. Now let's see, what soft plastics for the shad? |

Ok thanks. I remember using darts when catching the shad when I was a kid. Do you sell your flutter spoons? |

sometimes.....if i am catching a lot on he spoons and not the darts i'll hand a few out and sell a few after they like them.....i'm running really low on supplies right now, so i'm keeping most of what i have for my self......the rocks and boulders in the potomac like eating them even more than the shad...lol

sounds good.....although i am to the point that i am going to use the canoe in the potomac so i can fish that channel edge.....if i capsize its only about 125 yrds from shore.....and if i caught a few stripers it would be worth it....lol

fished the occoquan river for a few hours bafore dark tonight.........was trying yo catch herring for stripers tomorrow.......instead of using a weight at the end of the sabiki use a swim shad........it helps attract the herring and can make things interesting when you catch some good size cats and stripers like we did tonight

USAFfisherman and i went to burke lake this morning and had a decent day.........fish were caught on wacky rigged trick worms and senkos all day, buzzbaits in the morning, and a spinnerbait of my own design around 2pm.....bass are tight into the grass and cover with most fish hitting when the lure hits the surface

Did smallmouth fishing today in the Upper Potomac with OldGuardAngler. We caught more than our fair share. I'd guess somewhere around 20 - 25 combined. OldGuardAngler caught at least 3 in the 2 - 3 pound range. Almost all the fish were caught with a white/blue shad and a blue shad rattler. They were striking and striking hard. Some were also caught on senkos, tubes and gulp minnows...but they were all small. |

put in @ pohick today..... caught a lot of bass, somwhere between 20 and 30, most in the 2 lb range....a few pushing 4 +......got them on an assortment of lures...... a lot came on topwater zoom horny toads and rage tail toads....... black senkos........black/ blue flake chigger craws...... white chatterbait w/ chart trailer...... and i had a musky follow a big swimbait i was throwing, but i wasn't expecting it and pulled it up and out as he appeared under it about a foot from the boat......the majority of the bass were caught around wood in 4 ft or less....some of the larger ones were caught in the hydrilla at the mouth of pohick on the chigger craw
how is everone else doing

if you are fishing bass in the potomac.....find grass or wood.....throw spinner and chatterbaits.......pitch senkos and chigger craws..... and don't forget to throw a lot of topwaters, i have been getting fish on frogs, buzzbaits, poppers and walkers regardless of where the sun is if it is low tide and always during low light

Seen a 2`5``about muskee in the far shallows.Could`nt get to him. That would have been a great fight. Old-fart Catfisher |

What boat do you use at Burke? I've done the electric motor and the rowboat option, usually I take the rowboat because it's just as fast as that little trolling motor and it's only $16. |

If their`s anyone into big cats this is for you; I talked to the park manager at Fountainhead park and he informed me that there are 50 lb+ flat head cats in the lake.He said sense they quit stocking it a couple years ago, that alot of people quit fishing their and hardly anybody catfishes at all anymore, so the cats are getting huge. The carp are huge in there too. Just thought someone could use that little piece of info. Catch`em all |
