Included with the all of the new state laws was the increase of state freshwater license to $23.

I think when my current license expires I'm going purchases a lifetime license.

    44 and under = $260
    45-50 = $210
    51-55 = $160
    56-60 = $110
    61-64  = $60
    65 and over = $20

at $260 you could have it paid off in 11 years, most likely less since the price is going to increase more than once during that time.

A Washington freshwater fishing license is $24 and we don't even have an option for lifetime license.  $48 for a combo freshwater/saltwater/shellfish.  They used to raffle off a few lifetime licenses a year at $6 a ticket, but the state must have been losing too much money because they stopped it.

    Hi Slam,
I have been in Virginia for about a year and a half now.  I first had to buy the non-resident license until I officially moved here.
Then was lucky enough to buy my resident license last March before the price increase.  Now I am thinking of buying the lifetime if it's $160.
I will be 51 in January.  I see on the site that if I was to have to move out of the state of Virginia after buying the lifetime, it will still be good.  ( sounds silly to say that, but you never know)
I that you can only buy the lifetime on line.  Is that your understanding?
Where's your favorite fishing haunt in Virginia??

I believe you can only purchase the lifetime license through the mail. All other hunting/fishing licenses can be purchased online.
The lifetime form can be accessed at www.dgif.virginia.gov/licenses/lifetime

Places I fish in Virginia are

    By boat
Rappahannock river - from Fredericksburg to Port Royal
Potomac river-  from MT Vernon to Quantico
    Lake Orange
Lake Anna - northern part of lake
    Hunting run dam lake
James river -  deep bottom area

    by canoe
Rappahannock/Rapidan rivers  from Elys ford to Motts runs
Shenandoah river south fork  -  downstream from Luray, from Bixler ferry rd to ft Stover road

    Thanks for the license information.
Sounds like you are a bit north of me.  Lake Anna is a little bit over two hours away.
I am located in Central Virginia.   I live about 5 minutes from the Swift Creek Reservoir, about 40 minutes from the Chickahominy River, about one hour from Sandy River Reservoir, about an hour and a half from Briery Creek and three hours from Carvin's Cove in Roanoke.
Sorry, for the geography lesson.  These are all the places I have visited so far. I am also about 15 minutes from a launch into the James River but have not made it there yet.
