And they had one in La Crosse last fall....
.
It may not receive as much publicity as the “big money” professional bass or walleye tournaments, but Buster’s (Dave’s) Team Catfish Tournament is one of the most popular fishing events in La Crosse each summer.
Entry fee is $10 for a two-person team. Anglers simply meet at Buster Bright’s old boathouse just north of the Clinton Street Boat Landing before 7 a.m. on Sept. 6. Competition is from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Any type of catfish is legal but must be at least 14 inches long, according to Dave English, tournament director. A team may register a maximum limit of 35 catfish.
“You may leave and fish anywhere, but you must be back by 1 o’clock,” English said. “We pay first and second place. Total weight should break the ties but if still tied, the prize money will be split.”
A prize also will be awarded for the heaviest catfish.
“A post-party will be at Sam’s Bar, and Jerry Elliott will provide souvenir hats for the first 20 paid teams,” English said.
