What is the most bizarre object you have reeled in while fishing? (not fish, but an object) Or what is the most bizarre thing that has happened on your fishing trip? For myself, last summer I was fishing for smallmouth using a rooster tail. Well, the darn thing got hooked up on the rocks so I pulled and pulled until the line snapped and I lost the lure. A couple of weeks later, I was fishing the same spot with the exact same lure as I lost before, when I hooked what I thought was a fish. Imagine my surprise as I reeled in my fish, there at the end of my lure, was the other lure I lost a few weeks prior! I caught my own lure! There is a giant underwater rock that I always cast to because it holds big fish. I must have casted perfectly and hooked my lost lure! Amazing!!! Please share your amazing stories for everyone to enjoy!

On one occasion, when I was a kid, we were fishing on my dad's boat and my little brother was distracted and looking away from his rod. I still remember looking over and seeing his pole bend and get pulled overboard very suddenly by an angry trout! Well, the rod was gone forever in this deep lake, right? Wrong! A few minutes later my sister hooked a trout and reeled it in and there was a line sticking out of his mouth going back into the water. Very curious indeed! So what could be at the end of this line? Well, we pulled and pulled until finally a rod and reel appeared from the depths. It was the pole my brother had lost earlier! I don't know what the mathematical odds are of catching your own fishing pole, but they have to be pretty low! Needless to say, it was an amazing day of fishing!

I lost a spinnerbait in a small farm pond one year when the line broke after hooking a fish. The next spring I was fishing the same pond and hooked up. To my suprise, most of my spinnerbait was still in the corner of the bass' mouth. The skirt was gone, as were the blades, but the rest of the bait was right where I had put it the year before. I brought it home, cleaned it up a bit and put a new skirt and a blade on it.
Good things come to those who bait... Hoss in Wa

I was fishing near an overpass with a carolina-rigged plastic worm, when all of the sudden, I though I had a bite.  I started to reel whatever was on the other end of my line in, but it wasn't fighting.  That's when I noticed that the "fish" was flourescent green.

I've got pictures of the tennis ball, if you don't believe me.

THE MOST BIZARRE THING I EVER COUGHT WAS A SEAGULL. MY FATHER AND I WERE FISHING A SMALL BEACH ACROSS THE STREET FROM BARNAGET LIGHT STATE PARK, AS I WAS CASTING, A SEAGULL GLIDED DOWN ON GRABED MY BAIT RIGHT OUT OF MID AIR. THAT DARN BIRD GIVE ME THE BEST FIGHT OF THE DAY. AFTER REELING IT IN AND AVOIDING THE BEAK, UNHOOKED THE GULL AND SENT IT ON IT'S WAS.

Likewise, birds are big on my list.  I was fishing in the tail races below a dam in Alabama for stripers.  In trying to get my bait farther and farther out into the river, I did not notice a huge pelican flying across in front of me.  He did not get my bait but my line wrapped around his wing and it took me forever to get him to the bank and another battle to get him loose from the tangled line.  Finally, I was able to release the bird with little harm other than the shock of being landed by this young kid.  When the fishing is slow "birds are the next best thing".  Good luck and good fishing, Uncle Tom.
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.

After writing about the pelican, I remembered fishing with a close friend for bass but the bass fishing was poor to say the most.  Getting bored I noticed a small four or five foot alligator sunning in some lily pads.  I tied on a buzz bait and commenced to agrevate him.  I pulled it by his tail, by his mouth, right over the top of his back and when I least expected the water exploded and I had set the hook in that gator only to hear my friend say:  "Well now you got him what you going to do with him?"  To which I had no real answer!!!
As I got him closer and closer to the boat my friend said:  "Hope you don't plan on putting that thing in this boat!"  To which I replied:  "No I was hoping you would take the hook out of his mouth as I bring him around your end of the bost."  Forunately, the hook slipped out and all I could think of was:  "QUICK RELEASE!"  Uncle Tom

I was fishing at the bridge over Honeoye Creek in the village where I live during the spring, trying to catch some walleye with an abu spinner when I snagged something in the main channel.  I finally got it move and when I got to shore. I found I had caught a full six-pack of Genesee Beer.  They were nice and cold, too.  One of the other locals said he thought I was fishing for walleye, not suckers!  Good luck.  Norm

That would be my own eye brow. Fishing with my brother in a Coleman Crawdad late one night on the Sudbury River out side of Concord MA

I haul off for a nice long cast with a big ol 4" jitterbug. on the backcast I hook his line right near the tip of his rod. I throw for distance...his rod loads real good when I throw out my cast...his bail is closed and all my juice loads up his rod to make that jitterbug do a 180 and smack me square in the forhead. It was quite a good little thwap too. I diddn't know I'd caught myself till the second big trebble was dangeling in front of my eye and i couldn't move the lure with my hands...Talk about feeling lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!

.He can't see too well so it was off to the hospital for removal...the Er nurses were very nice to me :-) .

one time while fishing for sturgeon on the san mateo bridge in S.F. bay. I hooked a piece of rebar that weighed about ten Lbs. it was part of a ladder system on the side of one of the bridge pillars, it took about twenty minutes to get it up enough to get it in a drop net, turned out to the the biggest catch of the night

While fishing for Blackfish, my rig was snagged in the rocks, after working in out of the bottom i reeled in a homemade wreck anchor with about 20 ft of anchor rope attached. With in the tangled mess was about a dozen or so bank sinkers and old rusty hooks. It was a good catch considering the cost of sinkers can add up...

Once while fishing off a pier I snagged my line. I went back the next day and hooked a "fish". I pulled up my old rig with an 3 foot eel skin attached to it. That still boggles my mind to this day how an eel skin would get attached to my hook.

The head of a wild turkey. It turned out to be plastic and most likely the type used by taxidermists.
You should see the new rod and reel I got for my wife. I feel like it was a pretty good trade.

I once dropped my fishing rod of a pier and had to use another rod to snag it back. I've caught a bare jig head of the bottom the same day.
