Every month I have to grab my club mag and TEAR OUT the MALE SEXUAL PERFORMANCE ADS before my young son gets to the magazine. I realize that our club and the magazine relies on advertisers to help offset the costs but seriously are there no other advertisers willing to buy space?. I also think that NAFC if they wanted could find advertisers for other products to fill the same space. I am sure that many club member have children that look at their magazine every month, do you all leave the ads in? I have personally written some of the advertisers on the opposite pages to let them know that I rip out the page they are on because of what is on the other side. Before you all think that I am some prude, I am 48, a child of the 1960's and grew up in the era of free love and the sexual revolution. I am all for a free and open society. I do however doubt that many fishermen are really concerned about their performance when not on the water, and if they are most are smart enough to know that unless it is a medical condition none of the supposed remedies are going to cure them. Please NAFC lose the "Enhancement/Viagra ads or CLEAN THEM UP. Our CHILDREN ARE THE FUTURE or our sport and this world. Lets expose them to our wonderful sport and not the rest of the JUNK! I'm with you, Mark. I read the magazine to learn about fishing, & how to make our chosen recreation more fun & more productive. If I want to learn about "enhancement" & better sexual performance, there are other clubs to join for that stuff. I'm sure Ardent reels, St. Croix rods, Lunker City lures, or some other fishing-based manufacturer/distributor would be happy to take over those pages for advertising. I know I sure don't want little Michael picking up Grandpa's fishing magazine & asking, "Grandpa, what's enhancement?" And I am your contemporary... I went through the "sexual revolution" as well. If we're prudes because of this stance, well, then, by gosh, I'm a prude. I can see the value of vehicle manufacturers advertising in the N A F C publication... fishermen do have to drive to get where they're going to fish. We anglers should know what type of vehicle is best for us, & I encourage Chevy or Dodge to takeover these pages & display their products if Ardent or St. Croix declines to. Even bicycle ads, such as those for Wizwheelz (which is a pretty cool concept, by the way), have a better place here than what's printed there. But this sexual stuff is out of place in an outdoor periodical. Let's try for "enhancement" of our fishing skills, Steve Pennaz, & leave the enhancement of the other areas of our life to those organizations who make a living doing that. Lord knows there are enough publications & websites already that are dedicated to those tidbits of information. God bless all. -Sonny, Life Member since 2002 |

I am a club member and a father of 2, I can't stand those ad's taking up space in a magazine created for and by fisherman/out-doorsmen/women, which is supposed enlighten us to our love of the sport... at that same rate I and everyone else wouldn't be a very good American Citizens if I went around suppressing & censoring everything I/we didn't agree with. The right to free press and free speech is essential and with these ad's as with many things unjustly placed, without them we wouldn't be americans. Damn the man... go fishing and enjoy life for what it offers |

Those ads are on tv all the time folks , they are on magazine racks in the grocery store , they are on bulletin boards , I could go on & on . Times are different and the world is changing at a very rapid pace . The evening news can show a man being beheaded and we're worried about ad's in magazines which really aren't that offensive . Have any of you watched the tv shows kids watch these days or listened to their music or heard the way the kids talk when they think no adults are around ?? The problem goes alot deeper than a silly little ad in a fishing magazine . I too am a father and do not want my daughter exposed to this kind of stuff too quickly but the reality of the situation is it will happen eventually so I'd rather be around to explain things to them than have someone else do it . I do agree that a viagra ad has no business in a fishing magazine but they have no business in a sporting magazine or car magazine either . They are everywhere . Life Member NAFC since 2005 |

Well gentleman the latest issue for JULY, AUGUST, AND SEPTEMBER a whole 72 pages lets see that comes out to 24 pages a month has the enhancement ads in it again and with 3 ads that comes to one every 24 pages. The April 2000 issue had 138 pages in it with NO ads. The club in it's infinite wisdom made up for cutting our monthly issues down to about seven, which I am sure is cheaper for them, by giving us more enhancement, cigarette, chewing tobacco, and alcohol ads. It isn't going to stop because it's all about the $$$ for them. However on the bright side I will soon be able to cancel my playboy subscription because we will have it all here. I would like to see a poll asking all the life members if they would cancel out for their initial dues back.
Well off my podium and back to my easy chair.

Well, if you guys are getting upset about the male enhancement ads, how do you think us girls feel about the ads? I use to share this magazine with some kids but I don't do that anymore because of the trash in the back. If I wanted to see that kind of crap - I'd go buy playboy/playgirl........ Same thing goes for the Outdoors/sportsmens channel - I love the programming but the commericals for the sex aids is just a big turn off.

OOPS! I've never noticed them. I don't look at any of the adds that are in any magazines. Guess I'm not the kind of person they want picking up the mag. Jim

scout wrote: "Times are different and the world is changing at a very rapid pace." Life Member NAFC since 2005 You may be right but since times are changing you just gonna sit back and watch it happen or you gonna step up and do something about there are 2 different types of people in this world people who let stuff happen and people who make stuff happen. I like to believe I was raised with good values and I stand up for my point of view no matter what its against as a matter of fact, if people were to start up a petition to have those ads removed from tv, magazines, news, etc., etc.. they might actually remove them during the daytime hours atleast I was sitting watching a sunday morning show on vs at my fathers house a couple weeks ago, since I do not have a tv in my house, and there was a viagra commercial on tv when there were how many father and sons mother and daughters sitting watching that show that morning I personally wrote vs directly and complained, we may be moving towards a future but in my eyes it is not the right one. And our economy is showing that. You get fired from jobs cause you have to deal with family situations cause they "can't" afford to keep you on cause your priorities dont work for them and people wonder why our economy is in the can, and our unemployment rate is so high. Cause there are still people out there that have the right mind frame I dont care where I work my family comes first. And I have proven it before, Had a job >42k+ bonus< that gave me an option of moving my family to a gang oriented city or quiting. Well Im working in a call center which you think I chose, and I am home more often now and actually getting to see my kids grow up. Its easier to Judge then be Judged, Its better to be Judged and Learn from it. |
