Read with interest this month's article on Fluorocarbon line and would like to comment.

Most of the info in the article seemed accurate and in line with my experience with fluoro, with one exeception. My partner and I tried running fluoro leaders on Lake Michigan with disasterous results! We could spent 20 minutes fighting a large fish only to have it break off close to the boat. We went back to mono leaders and the problem vanished. I will continue to fish fluoro everywhere else I fish, but will not use it on Lk. Mich. again! I wonder if Zebra mussels are the problem?

I can take 20lb flouro wrap it around my hands after i took the backside of a butter knife to it and break it, try doing that with mono or superlines it dont happen Flouro is useless anywhere you have any structure that can knick your line in any way shape or form.

I use fluoro with success finesse fishing big bass out of heavy cover in Sam Rayburn. Have you tried the Trilene Fluoro? I tried it out and now use nothing else for that type of fishing, it seems to handle the abrasion a lot better than the mono lines I have used.

The only good thing Fluorocarbon is good for is using as a carolina rig leader.

Because of its sucky abrasion resistance, and kinkyness(it doesn't cast smoothly) I don't use it as a main line. I have tried Berkley and Stren and don't like using it as my main line

Use Mono for your main line. It's a proven fact that mono has better abrasion resistance and cast smoother. All fluorocarbon is is horrible invisible line.
