Why are there not more shore or bank fishing articles in the magazine? OK, the boat manufacturers and motor builders buy add space, but a lot of us shore bound or rental boat guys buy tackle! I subscribe to 3 fishing publications in addition to the NAFC magazine, and at times feel like a second class citizen! Even some of the boat owners are not able to afford gas in the current climate and are reduced to shore fishing. How 'bout it guys? Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

Have to agree 100% with you Tom. I know my son and I fish a lot from shore here in NM. It's not much fun sittin out on a lake with the air temp at 98* plus. More fun fishin from shore and soaking your feet. I would really like to see more written on shore fishing also.

Reverend: I live in NE Il. outside of Chicago. We also see 98*, just not as often as you. Our problem is that at 94* we normally also have 95% humidity. Sometimes I want to wade out waist deep and duck under from time to time! I knew I wasn't the only shore fisherman on the BB. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

About 50% of my fishing is from shore. I definitely agree that there should be some articles about shore fishing. |

I moved to SW Florida from Washington State where I had a 19 foot I/O open bow, sold it. I am fishing from shore for now and I feel right at home. It's all fishing. Some of my biggest catches have come from shore. Now I'm not a bridge or pier fisherman, but that's just my choice. Shore fishing should get more print, after all fishing creeks and many rivers are done from shore. Yes, like Tom says, we buy tackle, too. So I tip my hat to my shore comrades, but I am buying a boat next year so I can do both. I sent in a little article to the club awhile back about Fishing from shore and How it has a whole different perspective from fishing from the boat. And very true Snook, some of my biggest catches have been from the Bank. Tight-lines, Buckeye Ron Terlop(OH) P.S.B.M. Fndr. www.prostaffbassmafia.com |

It's an extremely rare occasion when I get to go out on a boat so, 99.9% of my fishin is done from the bank. I too would love to see more on bank fishing. However, in reality, all fishing tournaments are done from a boat. Atleast I've never heard of a bank fishing tournament. That's what the magazine editors and reporters look at. They don't stop at farm ponds or tournamentless lakes and converse with the everyday, run-of-the-mill, angler and ask for they're tips and tricks. Basically, if you're not in the spotlight, the big-wigs fail to show any interest in you. Ben Bryant

Hey all:
Just wanted to let you know that we're in the final stages of proofreading a feature article on shore fishing, and that you'll see it in print very soon.
Like you, I fish from the bank often. In fact, one of the last trips I took before everything iced up around here was a two-day river wade for smallmouth bass. I also enjoy a good story that highlights shore fishing. On the other hand, I. too, get valuable information that helps my shore fishing from just about every article I read.
Anybody out their share this opinion? |

It's an old joke that put a fisherman in a boat and he'll cast as close to shore as he can, put him on shore and he can't cast out far enough. That said, a lot of boat fishing techniques can be "mirrored" and used from shore. The problem most shore anglers face is access. Usually any public access areas are so pressured that fishing is poor at best. Living in the Chicago suburbs, I am very familiar with this as most of the waterfront property is private. Years ago, landowners would allow you access but the proliferation of liability suits has ended this. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

Don't get me wrong, boat fishing articles have helped out alot. Without them I would, probaly, still be using live live bait and bobbers exclusively. However, there may be bank fishing techniques that differ from boat fishing. I, for one, would love to read about them. Who knows, running more bank fishing articles may increase sales/memberships as the bank fisherman sees something that they can relate to. That's my opinion anyway. Ben Bryant

I am from Illinois also, and I just shore fish for Cats. I live in a small town with a good river and there are plenty of places to fish that are virtually untouched. My friend got himself a nice boat and I have declined to fish off of it every time. Nothing better than letting the bait soak and just listen to the quiet, and observe the beauty around you instead of getting a headache from the engine roaring. Just my opinion |

I enjoyed the shorefishing article, lots of basics but a few things I never thought of also. Now if the lakes will defrost I'll get out and try some of the tips. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |
