Badmouthing the club in these forums is kinda like the devil tryin' to steal souls at a Baptist revival! Don't these disgruntleds know that the place to complain is Member Services? Tom |

I just talked to my priest. He is coming down to perform The Last Rites on this topic and put it to rest! |

No complaints here yet. Got two issues of the magazine, then second was much better than the first. What I don't get is this: how does the magazine and NAFC supply ad space for a company (ahem Cabelas) that doesn't in turn offer the members discounts? I went to the Cabelas in WI off the 41/45 split and spent $200+ on reels for our youth program, only to hear that they don't give discounts to members, even though members work there and they have ads in OUR magazine. WTF is that? |

Cabela's and the other advertisers in the magazine PAY for the add space, that is how the club (or any other publisher) covers the cost of producing the mag and hopefully turning a profit. Any decision to offer a club discount is a corporate decision unrelated to advertising. I am sure that any employees who are club members joined on their own. Tom |

Just yesterday, the other clubs' social media editors and I suggested in a meeting with some of the Member Services people that we'd like the clubs to work with sponsors/advertisers to develop "Groupon"-style deals and discounts for our members. We feel just as strongly that this would be a great service to offer you and will be doing all we can to make that happen. Note that we do not have decision-making control, but we are asked for our opinions by those that do. So, here's a question -- would rather get deals on higher ticket items like rods and reels, or on stuff that you have to replace often throughout the season, like soft baits, terminal tackle, line and such? Like I said, I can't pull the trigger on this myself, but I can report in meetings what you guys are asking for! -- Regards, Web Guy Greg |

I would personally say the small ticket items. that is only because it is what i most often purchase. big ticket would be great but I am usually looking for bargains such as getting items from Cabelas bargain cave and such. Of course this is only my own opinion and I am sure others have different opinions on this. Thanks a bunch Greg for looking into this. Brian |

My vote would be for the smaller stuff like the tackle and other items that we need to replace regularly. everyone now and then a big ticket would be OK but I personally would get more use out of the smaller ticket items.

Smaller tackle items are purchased more frequently than rods and reels. Lures, hooks and soft plastic baits are a necessity and need to be purchased much more often. A rod and reel will last years but newer smaller tackle items are always becoming available so I would vote in their favor. |

Talked with some of the Club executives today and suggested that our members would LOVE to get great discount deals on lures and baits. I'll keep on it. -- Web Guy Greg |

I've recently joined the NAFC and I for one like it very much. I didn't become a member for the field testing or the free hooks or other special offers. Seems like some of the people posting here need to learn that perks like field testing is an added bonus, not so much free gear you're entitled to. As a novice fisherman who's just started out (been fishing only about a year and a half or so) I find the magazines insightful, and haven't had any issues with receiving the three issues or so that I've gotten in the mail. (Knock on wood!!) Times are tough for everyone, especially corporations. Be thankful for the perks we receive by being NAFC members, and not sit and gripe about not receiving all the free stuff we expected when we became members. I received the book Bass Strategies last night along with a few other things like bobbers and a spool of line. I've already read about half the book and I've already decided to participate in the Lines 'n Lures program. I think the information in the book is great and look forward to future installments for other species. |

I personally would rather get a possible discount on big ticket items such as reels, rods or even boat items such as seats, fuel tanks and the like. Don't get me wrong, I go through more than my fair share of terminal tackle, lures and bait and saving a little here and there would be good. What I find most of the time though, is that I spend a lot of time staring at some of the higher dollar or premium items such as rods and reels considering the price... Thinking to myself if it were just a little cheaper I'd pull the trigger and buy it. Sure, small ticket items tend to add up but I don't find myself staring at a pack of treble hooks reluctant to pay $3 or $4 for a pack. Greg, as a newer member I have to say I'm impressed with your professionalism and quick and helpful responses on these forums. It's nice to know we fishermen have someone listening to the needs and wants of club members. Thanks for your hard work. |

Again, thanks for the feedback, sir. Among my top goals is to use what I learn from the members on the forums to help make the club better from everyone in the club. I don't have the authority to approve many changes, but i sit in meetings with people who do. And you've got my word that I'll always advocate for club members when I have the opportunity! |
