My bestfriend and myself like to wade the creek on those hot summer days and our favorite one runs through his back yard. It's a tiny little creek that occassionaly gets about waist deep and is great for decent sized perch and a handfull of small bass with the 4 to 5 pounder about once a year, but it's alot of fun (not to mention you stay cool when it's 100 deg. out). We are very competitive when we go fishing so we're always trying to get the advantage on the other guy. One day we're fishing our creek and it was  a close race. As we rounde a bend there was a tree down hanging just in the water. I stayed in creek and worked arond the tree with my crawdad crankbait. My buddy who had been using a beetle spin took a ledge across from the tree and said to me he was going to tie one his new secret weapon. He pulled out a new original Rapala , tied it on and fliped it up under the branches. He slowly reeled it out to the middle of the creek with the, 1 a year 5 pounder, following right behind. Acoupple of twitches and a pause later the fight was on. I could see from my spot in the creek the bass had turned and was trying to get back to the tree but my buddy was holding his ground and wouldn't give him an inch. Just as it looked like the fish was starting to come in it gave one last jerk for the tree and disappeared. I looked over at my friend who had quite the confused, then angered look on his face as he relized that he had lost his fish, and his BRAND NEW LURE that was only one cast old. On further inspection we noticed that the knot had slipped. As we moved on down the creek it was a little quite, just a bummer man from me and a yah from him, but I could'nt feel to bad for him after all if he had landed that fish he would have tide me in fish, with the big bass, taking the win.
