After telling my buddy about posting the story of him losing his fish in, I do knot know what happend, he insited that I post my story of new lure mis-happ. Once again we were fishing our favorite creek and I had taken a decent lead on the fish count at about 6 to 3. On those special days when It seems like you catch a fish on every cast I like to tie on a little somthing different and play with it to see if I can't find the best use for the lure. Just so happens that right before I left the hose I was digging around in the garage where I keep my equipment and found some brand new lures that my parents had bought for me a few months ago. so I threw them in my little creek bag and headed out. So like I was saying I had taken a decent lead and decided to try out one of my redicovered lures. I reached into my bag and grabed a package with a crawdad crank bait, which is my go to lure for that creek anyway, with a little different profile. It was missing the lip, was weighted, and had a thin blade like profile. I threw it a few times playing orund with different retrives to se what kind of action it had. When I found a retrive that I liked I started working the creek hitting some of my key spots one of which is a bunch of low branches right above the water with a small hole right under them. As I worked this spot I managed to get my lure hung up in the branches. Like mst fishermen instead of chalking up another lure lost I decided to try and pull it out of the tree. I set my drag as tight as I could get it turned my back and tugged. On one good tug the lure came zinging out of the tree and hit me in the hand. As I looked down to get my lure I noticed that the hook was nicely buried into my thumb all the way to the curve of the hook. I gave it a couple of pulls and realized that it was firmly inplanted. After traking down my buddy and showing him what happend we started the 20 minute track back to the car so I could go have the doctor cut the lure out and get a tetnis shot. Even though I stuck a hook in my thumb, when we left the creek I was still up by 3 fish and won the count for that day. |
