One day when me and my brother were kids our father took us up onto the pond nearby owned by one of my father's friends. He had to work on a truck that was stuck up there and would not run. While he was doing that me and my brother brought up our fishing poles and tackle boxes and went on to fish for bass. There was never really any big fish in the pond that we had ever saw before until that day. It had been about 20 minutes up at the pond we fished. All we would catch were some small sunfish. But suddenly in the water we saw this MONSTER bass swimming about. It wouldn't take live worms and it wouldn't take to lures. But me and my brother were determined to catch this fish.
We virtually spent the rest of the time up there trying to catch this fish. It was not the middle of the afternoon and we decided to switch our strategy. We caught a lot of sun fish that day, so we decided to use them as bait! We really didn't know any better, so we would hook it, real it, then cast it back out. For some reason it would actually work! We got it on the line and reeled it close to shore before the line snapped! We were so frustrated, but we still didn't give up! So we used the same strategy as we did last time, and to our luck, it worked! He hooked that monster bass on it again, not even 10 minutes after the first time.
But shockingly the reel jammed, but we were STILL determined! So, my brother who had the pole, dropped it and grabbed the line and dragged it in that way. He hollered for me to help him pull it in, so I dropped my pole, which still had a line in the water, and ran over and we hauled it in! We screamed for our dad to come over to show it to him! We didn't want to touch the fish, so we had our dad bring it to his truck. On the way the line snapped and the bass fell to the ground. It almost flopped its way back into the pond, but my dad got it. We took it to the truck and decided to keep it! We were filled with so much adrenalin we couldn't even fish for the rest of the day! We were too exited.
After my dad was finished with the truck he was working on we took the bass to our local fishing shop! We took a picture of it, weighed it, and measured it. The "monster bass" turned out to be 20 inches long and weighed 4.3 pounds. Not bad for a couple of kids eh? But I don't think I will ever forget that day me and my brother worked together to catch that bass!
Oh, and by the way, I'm a new member to the North American Fishing Club and this forums! I have loved fishing all my life and now I have a chance to be apart of the North American Fishing Club family!
