Some of the best fishing could be right in someones back yard! No matter what anyone tells you or thinks they can show you. Pond fishing can produce BIG FISH! The middle of our farm pond might be 12 foot deep. The cows walk in it to cool off and get a drink. Water is dark and murky. But when you are standing 15 feet from cows watching you fish and a friend right next to you that doesn't believe you. When you hook into a 8 pound bass! HA! HA! That's right! Rub it in. Then next time they should believe you. Big fish are every where! Don't be worried what someone might say about not fishing there pond. If you know of a pond, go to the door and talk to them. They might let you fish it! Just don't ever disrespect that privlage you recive. Good luck to everyone and hope you catch a BIG one. |

I have to agree, the size of the lake does not limit the size of the fish. Some of the biggest fish I have caught lately have come from a small pond (about 4 acres) and I have returned them all! Best of luck to all and remember CPR! Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

I fish ponds probably 90% of the time. Streams and creeks 9% and lakes take the other 1%. Ponds are great especially if you do not have access to a boat. Lifer since 05/08....Ky....Fred |

I must say what got me started in the sport of fishing was my firt home purchased that was situated on a man made pond. well it's been about 5 years now and my bass count is growing. Well to prove to all the folks that say that pond fishing produce no result take a look at this footage of my 3 yrs old son pulling a huge pond raised largemouth. The biggest problem with ponds is managing them properly. sometimes, the best thing you can do is keep some of the dinks to thin the school and make sure there is enough forage to allow the fish to grow. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

Talking about getting permission; I always do that. You want to know what takes that privilege away? Other people disrespecting the property by cutting ruts or trashing the place up, or having drunken parties, or getting greedy with the amount of fish they take, for example. I've lost a lot of good fishing spots because of the way other people took advantage of the owner's generosity! |

I went to a local farm pond and threw on the new Berkley Crazy Legs Chigger Craw and caught some of the biggest bass this season. My biggest topped out at 4 lbs. My friend and I just kept catching and catching bass from this pond. It's been great to take my kids there so they could not only catch fish, but catch some nice size crappie, bass, and bluegill. Thank God for the farm ponds! I attached the fish I caught on 12 Aug 2009 with the Crazy Legs Chigger Craw. This has become my go to bait this season.

I too have to agree that local retention ponds hold big fish.We have three ponds to choose from and I fish them on a regular basis. One of the ponds holds a fish that was my biggest bass in my 40 plus years of fishing. It weighed 11lbs 8oz with a 15 1/2 girth.Took measurements and released back in the water.Since that day you will always see atleast 10 to 15 people fishing the banks |

I have noticed that big bass and other fish can be caught in small ponds. My theory for this is that since the body of water has little to no fishing pressure, the fish are more likely to take what you present to them. I also read in a magazine somewhere that a body of water has a limiting factor of size of fish based on size of water body. |

when I was in my childhood my mothers cousin had a pond that was about 1 1/2 acre's. it had some nice rainbows and very little pressure. I was allowed to go fishing there but with strict guidlines on what I kept and using single hooks and no bait. He would also allow other people to fish if they got permission. However there where some kids next door who would fish over his fence. he ended up having to string several lenths of barbed wire from posts underneath the waters surface to discourage this. If they had only asked he would have probably allowed them to fish. After one of my outings someone came into his property and tipped a statue over into the water that was next to his small boat dock. I was blamed and not allowed to fish there anymore. I caught one of my largest rainbows out of there, it went around 25 inches. I was very disapointed that I was no longer allowed . |

No fish in that pond so I was told. Caught and released 40 bass in 3 trips. Decided there were crappie.. Caught the largest crappie ever 16 inches. Later after clearing some grass to make the fishing easier. Caught 5 crappie none smaller than 12 inches Now I have invited the owner to fish with me. Linewinder |

I can agree with that. I have fished ponds for most of my fishing life and I have found some of the biggest bluegill and catfish that I have ever caught have came out of a little 1 acre pond. |
