    i was fishing last night at the blackriver in lorain oh it was about 12 at night.i had been cuting fresh fish up all night for bait.. never thought about what that smell would attract.thats when i see a raccoon coming up to my bait.so i get up and throw him some cut bait.he ends up hanging around us for about 2 hours,well my bell starts to sound so i jump up and set the hook and start fighting a catfish in!! and thats when it all goes wrong the raccoon whom i thought i had freinded came up when my attintion was on the fish i was fighting and bit me on the ankel!!!!!!scared the death out of me.NO WORRYS i had on my work boots and he dident bite threw it.THANK GOD!!!!and yes i still caught the cat

    the cat was about 4 pound channel.and i have been thinking of at least getting a bb gun to take along with me fishing for littil problems like that.

    That is an example of why it is suggested that you do not feed wildlife, they can be as possesive as the orneriest kid and when you turned away, you ignored it and it got angry.  

    Forget BB guns, a pellet gun might be OK but a .22 revolver would be better.  I say revolver because you can load with shorts or shot if you desire or heftier stuff if appropriate.
