I was fishing in a small lake in maine this morning, using cranks. when i noticed a large bass suspending in some cover about 2 yards to my right. i skipped the crank over to it and it didnt budge, not so much as a glance, confused i tried again, in the net hour i proceded to try and tempt it with everything from topwaters, to football jigs, to spinning rigs to softbaits. after an hour of hard albeit fun fishing i had acheived nothing. i decide out loud that i needed some real bait. my dad who's not a fisherman, had been reading the newspaper up until this point. he decided to go up to the convienece store to buy some nightcrawlers. he came back empty handed, they were out.i decided to relieve the local bait store's baitfish pen of a single minnow. after putting it on a hair jig and suspending it in front of the bass i got an instant reaction. he snapped it up immediatly and in my shock i forgot to set the hook. Eager to catch the fish i returned to the bait pen and filched another minnow. the fish snapped it up and i set the hook. he immeidatly pulled the jig off the line. i hadn't tied the knot tight enough. realizing this strategy was working i went to tie on another jig with a double knot. on the second knot i slipped and impaled the hook into my leg. My dad rushed me to the emergency room, (he's a bit of a hypochrondriac) and after a shot of lidocane and some nasty looking clippers, i was free to return to the bass. when i got back the bass was gone.

just wait for a crankbait in your neck.... not fun
