I was fishing from a pier at my local pond trying to catch bass several years ago. I was so sick of the same uneventful presentation that I just let my plastic grub lay on the bottom. After about thirty seconds I noticed a shadow fall over the grub and line started pouring off my reel. At first, a few seconds, after it hit I thought it was a giant bass, but here in the northern states bass don't get that large. When I finally got it in I realized that it was a carp. (12 lbs. to be exact.) Can anyone explain this wierd fishing trip? I know I've never heard of this type of thing before.

I have caught carp on artificials. Of course every time I had been fishing for something else. I hooked one on a spinnerbait that took of and snapped my line before I loosen my drag. At first I though I may have hooked it by the tail but realized that this was probably not the case since the spinnerbaits single hook is upturned and pretty much protected by the blade.
