I recently took a friend out fishing and he happens to be a Navy veteran and disabled. I took him fishing because I knew he seldom gets the opportunity and I thought it would make him happy and feel good. It happens that he had a good time fishing and told me it was the first time he has been fishing for Lake Trout in 30 years. He caught a couple Lakers and had a wonderful day; but I think I smiled more than he did! I must tell you that I had one of the best days out on the water fishing that I had in a number of years. Due to his disability he is not too mobile out in the boat and needs some assistance and I did not mind giving a helping hand. I think I had more fun than my friend did. We both had so much fun that we repeated our first fishing trip for Lakers a week later and I think we will do it again. He still has not caught a keeper as they must be at least 23 inches and he keeps coming up a inch short. I have been the lucky one so far in our past two fishing trips catching the keepers so we did share a couple of fish dinners. It turns out he also enjoys eating fish too. I have promised him that he will catch a keeper so we have to plan another day of fishing very soon. By the way, I am waiting on my son to come home and I will take another veteran fishing. He is serving our country with the US Coast Guard and loves fishing too. You want to feel great... take my word for it... take a veteran or serviceman fishing! God Bless America!
