I've been trying to tie leaders using 40# line and seem to have a problem with the knot staying tied. Can any provide input on a knot that will stay tied to leaders using 40# mono?

Never tied line that heavy, but a blood knot always works for me on leaders

What I am tring to do, is retie flies for salmon fishing. The flies I have now are getting old and ihn god shape. I do not want to wait until I have a monster on the line and suffer line failure!! I would like to try using two hooks per fly and keep the hooks in line not on a 90 degree angle of the line. Thanks for any insight.

You should contact Erabbit.  He uses that set-up for his flies.  When I helped him last year I used a polomer for the first hook and I can't remember the name of the knot for the second hook.  You are talking about tandem hooks, right (two hooks per fly)?

I USE 40# GAMMA FLUOROCARBON ON ALL MY FLIES FOR SALMON ALSO I ONLY USE OWNER HOOKS. I BUILD ALL OF MY OWN LEADER SETUPS AND THROW AWAY THE CRAP THAT COMES IN THE PACKAGE MOST OF THE TIME.  I SNELL ALL OF MINE ON THE REAR HOOK AND A VARIATION OFA SNELL ON THE FRONT HOOK WHICH IS DONE MORE LIKE A NAIL KNOT LEAVING A LONG TAG TO TIE ON THE SECOND HOOK. JUST MAKE SURE YOU PULL THEM TIGHT AND I MEAN TIGHT. I HAVE NEVER LOST A HOOK YET AND ALLMOST NEVER LOST A FISH. OWNER HOOKS ARE THE BEST I HAVE EVER USED THEY STAY SHARP AND DON'T FAIL. AND BELEIVE ME THE CHEAP ONES WILL FAIL GAS IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO WASTE ON CHEAP EQUIPMENT. WHEN TIED CORRECTLY THEY LOOK BETTER THAN THE MACHINE MADE ONES AND THE HOOKS TRACK BEHIND THE FLIE NICELY AND SINCE I KNOW WHAT THEY ARE MADE OF THERE ARE NO WORRIES.
