Seriously though, I'm no biologist. This is the way I understand it, and it may vary with different species of Bass, but, It is very hard to distinguish the difference between Male and Female Bass except around spawning season. Mature Males may emit milt, ( a milky substance) from their vent while greenish color eggs may appear from a Female Bass. Sometimes a Male on a Bed during this season may be paler in color. Also Females grow significanltly larger than Males with Males rarely reaching more than 8 pounds and Females reaching trophy size ( 22 or more pounds). Females live longer than their Bo ( just like their human friends, "Survived by Widow" seems to be in most Obits) And by age 2 or 3 years old grow faster than Males. By age 5 years old a Female may be twice the size of their Male counterpart. Of course growth rates depend on factors like food supply and length of growing season. If anybody has anything to add or you disagree with my understanding of this topic, Please post so I may become educated on the subject Knowledge is Power!!!
LilMik, I hope I shed some light on this subject.
