I always use abour 4-6 chunks of cheese. About 1" square each. I buy a small block of the cheapest cheddar cheese i can find and so far have had good luck. Anyway, hope this helps. |

Just really depends on your usage as does everything else.. I've used bread, any type will do, you can often get some old stale bread from grocery stores for free.. the only draw back is bread softens up and dissolves after a day or two tops, so if you're going for overnight bread should be fine, dog food usually last 2-3 days for me, and if you plan on leaving your trap in for longer than that you run into other problems, most time the minnows figure out a way to get out once the foods gone, and i've also came back to traps that have snakes, and crawfish in them (the snakes make it exciting) hope this helps... |

i've used bread, dry dog food, dry cat food all with decent results. Oh ya a couple of snakes too! if the trap is completely under water the snake usually drowns though.

I've used just about everything but I find raw bacon works best |

Bacon? I will try that next time. I never thought about that, thanks. I have also used banana chunks with good results. |

I have had luck with bread, and crackers. I think just about any starch would do. |

I DONT USE ANY BAIT IN MY MINNOW TRAP AND I GET LOTS OF MINNOWS. I THINK PLACEMENT IS THE KEY TO CATCHING MINNOWS. I PLACE MY TRAP PARALLEL TO THE BANK CLOSE TO WEEDS OR A FALLEN TREE. I SET MY TRAP ON MAY 23 08 AND THE NEXT DAY I HAD ABOUT 5 DOZEN MINNOWS WITH NO BAIT IN THE TRAP

I've always had luck with small pieces of bread rolled into balls (small, as in, about the size of your pinky fingernail).

treet meet or spam always works great. i always catch at least 20-40 in a trap and i usually only use 1/3 of the meat because i seperate it into other traps. don't mash the meat up keep it in a block and throw it in the trap then put the trap where you want it, leave it over night, and come back in the morning and you'll have more than you need |

all these things work great for getting minnows. if ya live in an area
that have leaches [ the ones ya would use for bait] put in some bloody
type of red meat and ya might caught them too.

I like to use raw bacon. But occasionally i'll use foil. It shines and the minnows just cant help but see wat it is. Use foil and bacon and you got a mighty deadly trap. Works good on bluegill too. Covan Master |

For quite some time I have been making a paste with a can of sardines and cornmeal tie a ball a little bigger than a golf ball in old pantyhose and hook to the bottom of the trap with a long bread tie so it floats in the middle. Lasts a long time, never thought of bacon but will definitely give it a try. Life Member since March 1999 Life Member NRA ,NAHC |
