It's been my experience that if your using very light lures (less than 1/4 oz),and going for distance, then use a spinning rod/reel. You'll be wanting a 6'6" or 7' rod med or med/hvy with a fast or extra fast action and a good quality smooth reel. (Pflueger supreme, patriarch Quantum energy or tour pt ect...) if you're going to try throwing light lures. You'll want to use light line also 6-8 lb mono or 20lb sufix braid (about 6lb dia). Just remember the harder/further you try to cast a light lure with a baitcaster the deeper the backlash will be. These are good for pin-point accuracy with the lighter stuff, but again, if you are just wanting to launch a lure across a lake, use spinning gear.
