last year i started using a modified version of a drop shot rig to catch fish off of beds. i have just got to say this thing is absolutely AWESOME. basically instead of the typical sized "shot", i use a 1/2 to 3/4 oz. weight. the obvious advantage is that you can work the the bait in the "sweet spot" on the bed forever (or at least until big mama eats it) without ever moving it off. this is a huge advantage over jigs, tubes, senkos, or texas-rigged soft plastics (traditional bed fishing choices) with which you move the bait farther and farther away every time you twitch it. eventually you have to reel in and re-cast with these. anyone else using anything like this? if not and you like to bed fish, you definitely owe it to yourself to give this a try. guarantee you'll be glad you did. good luck!!!
p.s. - this year when bed fishing is really hot, i might experiment with what i think might be an even deadlier version of this rig (if that's possible). instead of using a sinker or "shot" at all, i might use a heavy jig or texas rigged soft plastic to "anchor" the bait, with the bait above as usual. this would give the fish 2 baits to choose from while keeping them both basically in the strike zone. the version above works so well though that i might just leave well enough alone.
