hookups with this lure are disappointing at best.
The money minnow doesn't come with hooks. You decide what kind and how heavy of a hook you use. If you don't hook up well with them, I'm willing to bet that it may have been how you had it rigged rather than the actual bait itself's fault. But anyway as far paddle tail swim baits go, the money minnow is for sure one of the better ones out there. It's all about how where and when you fish it though, just like with any other bait. I like them in clear water because they are more natural and subtle looking.
The Fat Money Minnows
DO come with hooks...and nail weights. All Money Minnows come with rigging instructions on the package...not to mention that every show that plugged them gives
detailed instructions about rigging them...all claiming they must be rigged perfect to get good results. Kinda sounds like they anticipated trouble! Come on ILbassin, I think I rigged 'em right...so did Jimmy Houston. LOL. I wish I had a link to that episode so you could see what I'm talking about.
Maybe the behavior of the fish has an effect on success...more aggressive bass would swallow the bait, making hookup much better. I'll agree that it's one of the better paddle tails, but the simple fact is, you can't put a hook designed for slow moving soft plastics on a fast moving swimbait and expect great results.
Tell ya what I did that got me the most success with them...hang a treble hook from the main hook...I use a red treble for that bleeding minnow effect. This helps considerably.

P. S. Hey ILbassin, did you notice how they have to be hooked just so so in order to swim right?
