I RECENTLY MOVED TO TENNESEE AND WANTED TO REGESTER MY BOAT TO BE LEGAL. I WAS TOLD THAT I had to prove that I paid sales tax in the state of Illinois. I had the title for my boat.Since I bought it in 1992 I had only saved the paper work for the loan I paid off. Since I did not have proof, they made me pay sales tax again. To me that was a ripoff. I registered my cars and no such proof was asked. BEWARE, is this crazy or what? NOW....Tennesee doesn't require you to have a plate on your trailer, BUT, if you go outside the state you can get a ticket.(WHAT A WONDERFUL STATE I MOVED TO)
