no! i have never used um... i would want barbs myself but it is possible to land fish on barbless ,but better catch rates are on barbs of course a barb will do more damage than non barbs so that would be up to you...did you read the article on page 24 in the july/aug/sept issue? it don't talk about cats but it talks about the hooks.

Here goes again. Has anyone tried the barbless circle hooks for cats like the one pictured above? How did they work? Do I need a barb on my catfishing circle hooks?

I used to fish barbless all the time. As long as you keep presure on the fish they shouldn't be able to throw the hook. I've never seen the circle hook but from the Pic I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
Barbles also lets you release the fish faster and with lesser injury.

I'll go back and look for that article lbt. I've been ripping up the magazines and scanning the docs into my computer and if it was a really small article, I probably read it, but didn't keep it. If circle hooks do what they say, I'd suspect that the barb is not as important as on a regular hook, but that's why I asked this. I wanted other people's opinions. Thanks for the response guys.

I didn't get them yet. I went to Wal-Mart and found a box of assorted gamakatsu circle hooks, then a cheaper box of eagle claw lazer sharp circle hooks and bought them. So far, no fish, but I've only tried fishing with it once and had pesky nibbles. I'm going to try them in 8 days with cub scouts.

In-Fisherman, OCT-NOV 2007, Page 50, author Rob Neumann has an article about catfishing and mentions the circle hook. Said you don't have to set the hook as usual just sweep the rod back and will hook them in the corner of the mouth.

I have used them on several occasions and have found that you get best results by using patience and letting the fish set the hook themselves. It will always hook the fish in the corner of the mouth. If you try to set too early you will miss the fish.

Do they make barbless trebble hooks? It seems like it would make sense. You usually hook em in more than one place and it would make it easier to get out of the fishes mouth.
