You must be fishen the Schuykill river or Blue Marsh.  I just caught a 20lb'er down at black rock on thursday. We've been getting fish,  thats flatheads from around 8 lb's to over 40 lb's. channels go from 5 to 15 lb's. I use live green sunfish. try cutting them to get them to bleed it works good. I've caught gar on hotdogs. you have to let them run and get it down or you won't hook them. another good place is where we fish for stripers in Harve De Grace. around the train bridge. mainly channels.  Check my web site out and leave your comments. If you need info on any where drop me a line.

I've tried using hot dog sections. Caught about twenty bullheads and only one Channel Catfish!

Lately I've been catching quite a few Channel Cats off of hot dogs. Maybe because they are the cheesy kind?

I've tried hotdogs but never had any luck with them. I've always done well with chicken liver wrapped in nylon to keep it in place or cut sucker. I do keep hearing people doing well with the hotdog though.

Back years ago my Father and I got into jug fishing. We used hotdogs cut into 1/2" slices and then soaked them in Dales steak sauce. These would have a very long shelf life if kept in the frig or on ice. I guess the salt and etc. in the sauce increased the shelf life. We had great results everytime we use them. Quite simple when it comes to baiting up. Hope this helps someone along the way

I've tried fishing with hotdogs but never really had much luck. i normally do pretty good using chicken liver or cut bait. if you fish the same spot alot throwing dog food or fish heads out there normally keep them in that area.

TWO FRIENDS AND I HAVE CLEANED 540 CHANNEL CATS THIS YEAR. WE HAVE CAUGHT MANY MORE BUT HAD TO RELEASE THEM DUE TO LIMITS. WE USE NIGHT CRAWLERS IN THE SPRING AND WHEN THE WATER WARMS UP WE GO TO CHICKEN LIVER. MAY TRY HOT DOGS JUST FOR SOMETHING NEW.

Hotdogs have been my go to bait for years. I prefer the cheese filled kind (WalMart sells them for $1). I have fished them 100 different ways including cooking them, spoiling them, and soaking them, etc. But for me, fishing them right out of the package has been just as effective as any other method. I prefer to fish them on a swivel with a #6 treble. I just take the hook off the swivel, and slide the hotdog down the hook so that it is completely covered with the hot dog, and then put it back on the swivel. The bait stays on really well, and casts easy.

Hot dogs will work for bullheads and channels, but they are very soft bait and will come off the hook easily. I prefer frozen squid. It's very tough and difficult for the fish to steal, and you can't cast hard enough to cast squid off the hook!

I have used hotdogs for cats the whole time i have been fishing and have caught channel, Blue and maybe a bullhead. Just cut it in to 1" pieces and put on the hook. Last time i went out with a buddy of mine he didn't belive it would work and caught a 8 ponder about 1 min after it hit the water.

I have always heard Hotdogs are a decent bait for catfish. I have been using live minnows with good results though !
