    want to try my luck on champlains south bay, anyone have any advice on when the cats might be ready this year. will be my first time trying for cats.

    You can catch cats anytime but the warmer the better. In cold water they're usually deep and feeding on winterkill fish so cut shad, herring, or other cut baitfish put right in front of their nose is your best bet. If you dont have a boat I would wait till it warms up.

    will be fishing from the boat, figure i'll find a good spot and drop some cut bait to the bottom and see what happens.
