Hey all. I live in norther Ohio & only know a couple public access places to fish the Ohio River for flatheads. I could use some info on some new areas. I do alright where i go, would just like to mix it up sometimes. Thanks!

I'm  a bit confused. You live in northern Ohio and fish the Ohio river on the southern end of the state? Considering the opportunities in the north of Ohio, why drive a couple of hours? If you do fish the Ohio, check in at the Kentucky topic, you might hook up with someone. Tom

Yes, I do drive a couple of hours to hunt down flatheads at the Ohio River. I have been fishing for channels all my life because there aren't any flathead hole locally. Wasn't until a friend of mine took me to the river & I watched him pull in a 40# flathead that I was addicted! Thanks for the info.

Mosquito lake, thanks. I usually head all the way down around Hannibal, Oh. I tried once in Wellsville but it isusually so crowded that it isn't worth it. I live around the Akron area so Mosquito Lake isn't so long a haul. I've heard good things about Tappan Lake but have never caught anything there yet.

I`m about a half hour straight North of skeeter. I fish for them right off the causeway. Have not caught a #20 yet but maybe this year. Have seen pics of  #50ish come out of there.

I live in the Cleveland area and caught my first Channel cat last year. Well I started to target them on a few trips. Now catfishin' and smallmouth are my choice. Anyway did some research over the winter and for Flatheads in Northern Ohio the best places are.... Lake Erie, skeeter, Tuscarawas River (from Dover down to Uhrichsville), Atwood Lake, Tappan and Salt Fork. This year I hope to hook-up with my first Flathead. Good luck to everyone losing sleep trying to catch these elusive critters.

Thanks. I have tried Tappan a few times & caught nothin but channels. The Tusk River isn't that far from me so I will give that a try next month. I am out of the fishing game for a few weks, I sprained my ankle out fishing at a local lake after work yesterday! Thanks again everyone

If you want some big shovleheads then get on the Muskingum River. They are some of the biggest that I have tangled with. It likes to give up 20 to 30 puonders my biggest is 70lbs plus on a rod and reel just down stream of where Wills creek enters in a hole that we call the refigerator hole GOOD LUCK
