I recently started a discussion in misc. section on technique vs. equipment and then on luck. The same friend that prompted those posts insists that since the majority of you agreed with him that luck plays a role in fishing ( I still maintain that luck has no role in my fishing ) that most would also agree with him on proper use of a fly rod.
He insists that only traditional style flies be used, and never even dream of using strike indicators.
I maintain that if it's fun, if it produces fish, and if it's legal then that's the proper way to use a fly rod. Often time when float tubing with a fly rod and moving from one location to another, I'll tie on some crappie jigs and troll to the next spot. Further, if the blluegills are in a mood where they insist on live bait- I'll tie on an extra long tippet a small ice jig add a waxworm and a bobber. My fly rod is now a relatively short, but very efective, cane pole.
So what's your opinions? Have I using my fly rod properly?
( just a side note- these work for me thus I'm not changing)
