Anyone have any secrets for casting flies on windy days?
I like fishing with a 8 1/2 ft. 3 wt. fly rod but on windy days it's get to be a lot of work to get the fly out. When the wind picks up I have tried a tighter casting loop and the double haul with limited success. Generally I need to go to my 9 ft. 5 wt. to get any casting distance. And I've found that a shorter leader and tippet can also help. But I would really like to stay with my 3 wt.
So does anyone out there on the board have any little secrets to casting on windy days that they would like to share?
