Go to your local craft store such as Hobby Lobby they have tons of things you can use to tie flys with.

My best source has been Ebay, but you should go out to your local fly tying shops and check their prices first.   And Lou is correct, you should check out your local hobby shop / craft store.  I have found for the most part (at least in my area) that craft stores are the most expensive!  Davesett2000 and I like to shop at dollar stores for good buys on fingernail polish, which has far greater selections than the lure paint that is available for jig painting.  In case you are wondering, I don't use powder coating because it chips to easily...If you have friends that hunt, ask them for feathers, hair or fur.  Several of the tools that are used for tying can be purchased at Flea Markets & discount stores.  I purchased my first vise at my local tackle shop.  They were having a close-out sale.  I got my first Danvise on Ebay.  The box was damaged and it was discounted enough that I felt it was worth it.  Ya gotta look around, the deals are out there!  I hope this helps!

here is something we did a while back  just for fun .
    http://www.fishingclub.com/Communit...trash+flys

as a fly tyer you need to be creative .  in others words look at something and ask  can i use this  in my tying . or can i purchase this else where cheaper . fly shops are just that  specially packeged for fly tyers.
example a fly shop sells  a small strip of chenille for around $ 1.50
a craft store will sell you a whole skien for around $7 bucks .
    same with foam  for bodies

i have used garbage to tye fly's.  cellophane wrappers from candy  for wings .
packing foam .  Styrofoam from fast food boxes or cups for under bodies.
dental floss for under bodies .  keep an open  mind  and soon you will see fly tying materials all over the place .

    other places i like
garage sales , thrift stores , hardware stores,  craft stores .  hunters .

some examples are  see that Halloween wig  i bet i can make some  streamers out of it .
see that bag of Christmas tinsel buy it after Christmas
some bungee cords have excellent rubber leg materials
see that small motor over there  i bet it has  lots of cooper wire in it .
hmm i wounder if i can get this bead chain cheaper at a thrift store .
those plastic hair ties i might be able to use  for nymphs
those latex gloves i could color with a sharpie and make  bodies with .
    lamp cords
that hat has some fur on it  that feather duster has materials i can use

    other folks trash
cellophane candy wrappers , coffee straws for tube flies ,strips  from a garbage bag or sandwich bag for a replacement for nymph skin  discarded fishing line for ribbing or making bodies  color with a sharpie

You should check with your ocal fly/bait shop. I always try to support the local guy! You can't go wrong. On the flip side, be careful when you say cheap. Avoid packaged deals, they are inexpensive, but very low quality and you will be disapointed. You can go to any larger "box" store and buy supplies for fairly inexpensive. Truth is, for a couple of bucks or less (each) you can get thread, hackle, marabou or whatever you need to tie. This will end up costing you a few cents per fly. And as others have said the hobby shops are helpful. I have bought stuff at hobby lobby for my flies and have been very happy. Just be aware that cheap will give you cheap flies. Using the local guy will provide very very useful information. Brad ~ goldenfishingguide.net.
