Whats up fish hunter, a buddy of mine has this underwater camera, works great....only problem is it works so darn well that you find yourself watching the screen when trying to set the hook and miss the fish Big Grin<!--graemlin::D-->

Quick question out to everybody who knows about fish finders... I'm looking into them because I'd like to buy one in the hopes that I could use it on my boat and also out ice fishing. However, I'm not sure how they work.. Do fish finders work ice fishing?
My friend says she doesn't trust them because she was out in her boat last year, and said she could see the fish in the water, but they weren't showing up on the finder. That may or may not be true, is it possible? I was also thinking about getting an underwater camera so I can see what's going on, but then I thought, if it was iced up or if it was murky, I might not be able to see fish or objects anyway. Has anyone had any good expieriences with underwater cams or are fish finders better?

hello FH ive got the aqua vu zt 100 camera, and the VPG fish finder the camera is great the nice thing about through the ice is that the water generally is a little clearer in the winter not always the case but you do find yourself really checking out whats down there as opposed to watching your hook,if your not familiar with flasher/finders the VPG is an easy read. its straight up and down the top is top and bottom is bottom and alot cheaper than the vexilar or other circular flashers the average price on them are 229.00 opposed to flashers which can run you much more now I dont want to upset the flasher users so to each their own .

Hey guys, I'm really glad to see some good experiences with underwater cameras. If they are clear, that would be awesome to be able to see the bottom of the lake. Big Grin<!--graemlin::D-->
I wonder just how cheap is too cheap though.. Cabela's has several different brands of underwater cams, ranging from $100 to $500. The cheapest one is $99.99 and is a Fish TV cam. I wonder if buying a cheaper one means a bad view. The difference between that and more expensive cams is the more expensive ones have their own rechargable battery, I guess like a cordless drill. That would be better than buying a box of C batteries everytime I go fishing. Eeker<!--graemlin::eek:-->
Hmmm, maybe I should just spend another $80 for a more convenient cam...

Oh, another question: Does the fish have to be close to the camera to be able to see it? Confused<!--graemlin::confused:-->

HEY FISH-HUNTER. HOW YA DOIN' OVER THERE? I OWN A AQUA VIEW CAMERA AND I GOT IT FROM CABELAS ON-LINE AND IT WAS REFURBISHED AND IT CAME WITH THE SAME WARRANTY AS A NEW ONE AND IT WORKS GREAT, BUT NOT AT NITE. I HAVE USED IT ON MY BOAT AND IT WORKED GREAT THAT WAY TOO. ALSO IT HELP MY PARTNER AND I(HE OWNS ONE ALSO) WIN THE TOBYHANNA ICE FISHING TOURNAMENT 3 YEARS IN A ROW. I ALSO OWN THE LOWRANCE X67 ICE MACHINE. IT IS A FLASHER AND A GRAPH ALL IN ONE AND THAT ALSO WORKS GREAT. MY 2 FRIENDS OWN THE CABELA BRAND CAMERAS AND THEY WORK DECENT. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE CAMERAS IS YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SHIELD OVER THE SCREEN TO SEE IT. THAT IS ONE OF THE FLAWS. IF YA NEED ANY HELP GIVE ME A HOLLER AND MAYBE WE CAN MEET AND I CAN SHOW YOU THE CAMERA OR THE LOWRANCE. DON'T BE A STRANGER.

I bought the Atlantis underwater camera at Menards last year. I used it this summer and could only see the bottom 12 inches of the lake at about 5 ft of water. The lake was shocked to get rid of excess algae. But I did see some Bluegill and Saugeyes swimming. I did have to make a sun-shield out of a cardboard box to see the images on the black and white screen. I am hoping this winter will be better as the water should clear up. The only real thing that bothers me about it is that the cable is coiled up onthe bottom of the camera...making it difficult to let out extra cable or reel it back up. You have to pick the camera up everytime you want to adjust. Other than that, I think I made a good choice.
