I've never seen them; but heard they don't hold up especially in cold outside weather. The cold makes the loose charge very fast. No proof of this...just hear-say. Papa_d Frowner<!--graemlin::(-->

Has anyone ever used those adapters that you put on your hand augers to convert them to a electric auger using your cordless drill? Any luck? I can't quite scrape up the money for the new Strikemaster this year so I am looking for an easier way to drill some 24" holes. Thanks for the input.

Sorry guys, I should clarify. The holes are only 6" wide but 24" deep. Good thought on battery power though, that is something I did not consider. I will let you know if I decide to try one out.

DAkota, I tried a device similar to what youre talking about with my 8 inch hand auger on my 18v Snap On drill. 6 holes in 10 inches of ice then my battery was done. It may not have been 100% charged but was close. Im not sure if my auger was to big or the temp had a big effect on battery life. One thing I do rem. from the advertising of the item I used was { this is for the occasional tip up fisherman} Hope this info helps and saves your money from being wasted. Kevin

I saw this a year back and i was curios to see if it worked so i bought one on ebay. I brought it out once using a 24v black and decker firestorm hammer drill. It worked ok most of the day but i was with a big party so we had a lot of tip ups. i went through two batteries by midday and then had to fire up my mac 500 generator up to charge the batteries. i wouldnt suggest this product but it might work if you are fishing by yourself. I would suggest going out and buying a hand auger, they are esier to use than what the people with the big expensive gas augers say they are. you wont have to work about any battery or anything just start drillin Big Grin<!--graemlin::D-->

Well guys, I went out and bought a drill adapter. I must say it is easier than drilling by hand, but I am still saving up for a nice gas auger for next year. I could tell after about two and a half holes in 22" thick ice that my 19.2v battery was starting to lag so I switched batteries and drilled a total of four holes. I think it would do great on first ice up to 6 inches, but after that it starts to really bog down. A nifty invention anyway and the curiosity alone was probably worth the $15 I spent. Thanks for all the info and good luck fishing.

I went and got one off Ebay. Using a brand new 6" Normark auger and a brand new Craftsman 19.2 drill (with side handle) got 16 holes through 14" of ice off 1 batt pack. She still had some power but not much. Can't complain it does work good if you're not doing alot of holes. We can only fish 8 lines through the ice in VT unless you're on Lake Champlain then you can have 15. I went and got a new StrikeMaster gas auger with Fed. tax return and havn't even fired it up yet.
